Sims 3 Launcher Not Working

Hello,

I am really hoping I can fix this problem by writing here as I have searched for about 2 weeks now on how to fix this ☹️

I also have seen a lot of people with this problem also, but my problem still persists after many attempts to fix it using suggestions from other forums like this.

On my computer, a Windows 8.1 x64 PC, I have been receiving some problems in opening and playing Sims 3. Whenever I press the option to play Sims 3 in Origin or double click the shortcut on my desktop, a pop-up message comes up on my computer stating 'Sims 3 Launcher has stopped working.', with a loading bar. (The pop-up message only appears a few seconds and then reverts me back to Origin, perhaps my computer or Origin thinking I am playing the game, when obviously, I am not).

This is extremely frustrating because there have been countless errors, for some reason, for Sims 3 (specifically Sims 3 ?? Sims 4 seems to running fine, no problems at all). I also had an error about a week ago stating that there was a 'Bad Image - 'ie frame.dll' contains an error'. However, I was able to fix this with a CHKDSK scan, but the pop-up message still persisted. Could this be linked in any way?

I have tried numerous resolutions, but I would be happy to try them again or any other solutions. I really want to look at resetting my computer as a super last resort, as I don't really want to go through the stress and disappointment of losing all of my save files and custom content, for an error that has seen fixes for other people.

I really am stuck, please could someone help me 🙂

Thanks.

If this doesn't work, then updating to Windows 10 will be my next resort 🙂

    @puzzlezaddict Hi,

I tried to do the repair install and I seem to be getting nowhere unfortunately. There seem to be countless errors popping up or it gets a bit too complicating.

If I may ask, how would I update to Windows 10? As this is now what I am looking at to hopefully resolve it.

Also, just a thought, would clearing IE cache help? As this is what the whole error process started with, the bad image error on the ieframe.dll file which then was replaced with this error message.

    Thanks.

@alexmaxzac  You could try clearing IE's cache, sure.  It wouldn't have anything to do with the system errors you're seeing, but maybe it would help Sims 3.

Here's a good guide to upgrading to Windows 10.  I'd install using an ISO or USB stick, not the direct path through the Media Creation tool.

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2267-upgrade-windows-10-a.html

It looks like if your Windows 8.1 product key is active, it may automatically grant you a Windows 10 license.  Even though the upgrade program officially ended years ago, people report that it still appears to work.

When Windows 10 is installed, you'll need to install drivers too.  Windows may find some for you automatically, but double-check that you have all of these:

    https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ch/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/lenovo-h-series-desktops/lenovo-h50-50-desktop/downloads/driver-list

There's no harm in running them all: if that driver or a newer one is already installed, Windows should tell you, and you can move on.
