Sims 3 on origin and steam ep

So i have installed sims 3 on origin includes late night, high end loff stuff, generations and island paradise which all is installed on origin. But i have steam and i want to buy the bundle called sims 3 collection which not include the base game. So the DLC(ep and sp) will work on sims 3 base game even the base in registered on origin and other dlc(expansion and stuff) is downloaded for steam?

  • No, not only will that not work I'm afraid but Steam will not sell you any EPs or SPs (unless something has radically changed here very recently) unless you own the Steam version of the base game. So you would have to purchase an additional base game copy first. It still turns out to be a very good deal with the bundle pricing though and you should be able to register that new base game copy and WA when all is done for 1,000 Sims 3 Store points each.

I did this myself years ago because I actually wanted to switch to an all Steam install, not an Origin one, to escape the annoyances of Patch 1.69 and got a similar discount at the time during one of the formerly annual summer sales. :)

If you really want to stay on Origin, you can purchase the extra base game, the EP/SP bundle, and then try to use the Origin codes that Steam is supposed to throw in at no extra charge on Origin. This used to work flawlessly, but I think now players have to get customer service involved if they wish to do this because of some kind of tamping down on piracy/theft that was going on (or something like that).

If you want buy the Collection on Steam you need base game as Steam is anot allowing to buy DLC if you dont have base game.

EA now allowed again to show key for base game and Pets on Steam.

The Collection is very good as i think you will not be able to get better price and its hard to get Sims 3 legit EPs and SPs outside Steam or Origin. for good price.

  • I have a related question. If you have the base game on disc, does it work if you buy expansion packs through origin?

I have a mixture of disk base game and expansions plus download from Origin expansions. As far as I know they still work together, although I abandoned Origin when I got my new compute a few years ago and repurchased disk versions of all of my downloaded expansions so my game is now fully disk and not using Origin.
