Sims 3 pets plus isn't working on Windows 8! Help please!

I bought Sims 3 Plus Pets, installed it onto my windows 8 laptop. It opens and loads but, when I click the town I want to go into it doesn't completely load the town. I can see a few houses in the town but that is it. The trees, streets, an other homes in the town will not load completely. So,  I made a family and put them into a house but then I get a error message and it closes out of Sims completely. Do I need to change settings on my computer? Please help! Thanks for your time.
