sims 3 re-install issues won't load from disc only from the app

I finally got around to doing a complete uninstall and re-install of my Sims 3 game-uninstalled all EP's, SP's and base game plus Origin and the EA app, then ran registry editor to remove all files, tried to reinstall from disc and it just spun in the drive-I knew it wasn't the drive as I was playing my game before the uninstall, the disc did have a few scratches on it, so I read on the forum that you could use a mix of digital copies and disc copies, so I re-installed the EA app and got the base game re-installed, but when I tried re-installing WA, the disc just spun in the drive again and couldn't be recoginized, so I tried High End loft stuff, installer came up just fine, tried Seasons-installer came up just fine, but any games that I also bought digital copies from the EA app (only because I bought my dvd's second hand and I wanted the registration rewards), it doesn't want to install by disc. Would re-installing Origin from the disc fix that as I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of the discs 2 years ago (before getting the EA app) and I never had this issue or any thoughts?

  • @BonnieLM777  I believe you're the same person who posted on the NRaas site this evening, and the answer is the same as what you already received.  There's no point in mixing disc and digital copies anymore.  You'll be on patch 1.69 with even one digital download, and the App often doesn't recognize disc-installed copies when they're secondhand, even if the user owns a digital copy as well.

So it's best to let the EA App install everything you own.  That way, you won't need to use the discs to play, and you won't risk having the App refuse to recognize your installed packs.

Origin doesn't work in Windows anymore, so that's a dead end.  If you did install the very old version of Origin that came with some discs, it would immediately try and fail to update itself, even before installing your content, and then fail and throw an error.

yeah I was, and as I mentioned in my answer there, I don't own all of the digital versions only about 4 of them, and I just wanted to wipe everything and run it from the dvd discs, but it's almost like once I bought the digital copies, it disabled the disc versions of those digital copies on my computer, the discs themselves are fine as I tried them on another computer, but I want to be able to run all EP's and SP's and not just the ones I bought the digital copies for, I checked with a friend of mine this morning and she mentioned she had to re-install Origin to get the discs to work

I did try re-installing Origin but the main issue is that it will no longer detect the base game dvd or any of the dvd's I bought the digital versions for-I tried WA and Pets, but it will detect the other dvds like High End Loft stuff or Seasons, I know the base disc works as I tried it on my mom's computer and it recognized it in the dvd drive, it just will not recognize it on my computer and it worked when I did a complete uninstall and reinstall with the discs 2 years ago, the only difference between then and now was that I got a new video card and installed the EA app

@BonnieLM777  As mentioned, Origin isn't an option anymore, at least not in Windows.  For your discs, are there any that you do NOT own in the EA App that are also not detected by your system?  If the answer is no, I would suggest installing everything you own within the EA App, then trying to install your remaining disc copies.

However, even if you were to get this to work, it's possible the EA App won't allow these packs to load because you don't own digital copies.  It seems to be more strict than Origin in this regard.  You can try registering your codes in the App just in case the original owner did not, but I wouldn't count on that working.

If the base game DVD is old enough to not require Origin, you could in theory get an external disc drive and install using that.  Instead of spending money, it would be better to borrow one from a friend or family member to see whether it works with your discs.  But if your base game copy does require Origin, then this isn't going to help—Origin won't work, so you'll be stuck with the EA App and back where you started.

I haven't tried all the discs, just the base game, WA, Pets (all of which I bought digitally)-they just spin in the drive and my computer will not recognize that there is a disc in the drive, when I put High End Loft stuff or the Seasons disc in, my computer recognizes that there is a disc in the drive-I tried the discs on another computer and that computer recognized the discs just fine, the version of the base game disc I have came with the Starter pack and has the origin logo on the box, but the disc itself I noticed has the labeling of one of the earlier discs, I also tried copying it to a flash drive and was able to get at least the base game reinstalled, I had origin already installed, and the launcher for that came up ok, so then I tried the WA disc and it just spun in the drive, I don't know if this matters or not, but the other thing I remembered, and I only remembered it this morning was that back in March I was having issues with the dvd drive, the computer would not boot to windows if a dvd was left in the drive overnight, I usually left my Seasons disc in the drive all the time and never had issues with it until then, but all of a sudden, it wouldn't boot any further unless I took the disc out when I was done using it, so I suspect it was a driver issue or an update issue that caused it and may be causing this now.

@BonnieLM777  I understand all of that, but there really isn't a way to fix a DVD drive that isn't cooperating.  If you're still stuck, I stand by my suggestion to experiment with other drives, perhaps borrowed from friends or family members so you don't have to spend money on another product that might not work.

It sounds from your most recent post on the NRaas site that you might have fixed this, in which case, I'm glad you can go back to playing.

Not yet unfortunately, lol, but I'm going to take it to the computer shop and let them take a look at it tomorrow and hopefully they can figure something out to get the drive to read those discs-I was having issues with the drive before, the main reason why I don't really want to go to all digital versions was that I installed up to Island Paradise about 2 and a half years back and origin did update it to the 1.69 patch, but it really slowed the game down considerably-which was why I did the complete uninstall and reinstall of the game then but only installed up to Seasons, I've gotten more Ram and a new video card since then but I don't want to take the risk.
