Do you have any mods in your game ? Are you on a Mac or PC ? Do you have issues with any other options resetting (besides the lunar cycle which is broken) ?
- Yes, I have a few mods that alter game play (rather than just hair and clothes) one has to do with the hospital, one has to do with teen pregnancy. And that seems to be the only real glitch. However, one family, they were boyfriend and girlfriend but the game made it so they didn't know each other when I first started playing. But that hasn't been the case with this other family I've started.

Try removing those mods. They might cause a conflict.
Also delete the cache files.
Go to documents\ea\thesims3 and delete these files
CASPartCache.package
compositorCache.package
scriptCache.package
simCompositorCache.package
socialCache.package - Thanks, I'll try that! Also is there a reason that meteors are constantly coming and is there a way to fix that? Or will deleting the cache files potentially fix that as well?

That is also most of the time related to mods. You need to remove those as well, not just the cache files.
Mods need updating with every patch so make sure you ran the latest version if non is availble, remove completely.
- So far so good. No meteors have hit (knock on wood) . I had to leave so I saved my game but didn't exit (just got to fall so didn't want to take any chances) but it seems to be going well so thank you!
