Sims 3 University-Sims stuck at school and won't go home

That doesn't seem to work for me either.  Can't delete the sim.  And I saved the game after graduation so he's stuck.

I know this thread is kinda old  but people are still experienceing this even after all the new patches! but i just bought university and no one could graduate or go home or anything. anyway the ultimate way to fix this is to  change your dorm into residential and then drop out via phone and you will go home 100 percent garenteed! if you live on a residential lot you should be able to go home but if you cant then change to a dorm and then change the dorm into a residential and then drop out. yay!!!

Mines been screwed up badly. I've come back to my save, where my sim is at university. He hasn't graduated or anything, but all of a sudden I have no sim to control? I can only control f2, f3 and the time. What is this, and how do I fix it? I have 3 generations back at home and I don't want to lose it. I have attatched a print screen, so I can show I literally don't have a sim icon on the left side to click on. And on the bottom right were I would expect to see their hunger or bladder bars, won't open either.

1. I cannot control my sim
2. I cannot control any movement
3. I cannot click anything on the map
4. I can only control the camera movement
5. I can control the time (even though the sims don't move or do anything different - i've tried waitting until graduation)

6. I can enter buy/build mode

I waited until the midnight line was crossed and a World Adventures-esque bubble popped up that said "This adventure is over" and my sim traveled home. You don't have to pull a risky move and delete your sim in hopes that they'll show up at home. There's a far less risky way to fix it.

Hello! I recently reinstalled the game and had the same issue. Since I didn't save the game recently before their graduation and I didn't have a backup, I thought I was screwed. Fortunately, I had played two days ago and had saved from where I left at that point. I searched through the web and found this: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Restoring_Backup_Saves

Instead of loosing at least six hours of game, I just lost 3. For those who still need assistance today 🙂
