Sims 3 won't launch

Sims 3 won't launch

  • @cldunn1414  There may be a shortcut, if you're launching TS3 through Origin: don't use Origin at all.  Just launch the game through its icon in Applications.

Since you've reinstalled though, you may see an unknown error message on launch.  In that case, you'll need to start with a clean uninstall.  The uninstaller that comes with TS3 doesn't remove all the hidden library files, and those files can prevent you from launching the game going forward.  If you have saves you'd like to keep, move your game folder (the one in Documents\EA) to your desktop before uninstalling.

After uninstalling, reinstall the base game only, and run the Super Patch to manually patch to 1.67.  The launcher doesn't do a good job of patching on its own.

Now try launching the game, again leaving Origin out of it.  Let me know whether it works.  If it doesn't, you may need to edit the game's .sgr files to force recognition of your graphics card, although the fact that you could play before makes this less likely.  Still, it's a possibility.  I can help with the .sgr edits; just list your mac's specs, along with the device ID of your card.  Here's how to find that info:

If the patched base game runs, I'll write out instructions to install your packs.  City Life (Late Night) doesn't install properly, so there are a couple of workarounds you'll need to apply, but they're not too difficult, and they almost always work.

  • @cldunn1414  Can you please give me a few more details?  There are a few different reasons why TS3 might not launch.  First of all, are you running Windows or mac OS?  Have you been able to play on this computer before?  And which packs do you have installed?

It would also help if you could provide a dxdiag on this computer (Windows) or list your specs (mac).  Here's how:

lol sorry. Im on a Mac. I've played the sims 3 for a pretty long time but it suddenly stopped working a few months ago. If I try launching the game, it will go to a black screen. and ill sometimes have to shut down the whole computer to get out of it. I've tried re downloading the game but that doesn't work either. I just want to play the sims 3 again so if you could help you'd be a life saver.
