Sims 3 won't play after intro

I haven't played Sims 3 in a while, and thought I'll play it again. After opening the launcher and pressing play, the game loads, but instantly goes back to desktop, and I have to press the icon on the taskbar to enter it. It takes me through the Sims 3 logo, the Maxis logo, and the opening clip of the game, and I cant skip any of these. After the clip, I get a black screen, and i cannot do anything, the black screen stays there and I'm stuck in it, even after I go back to desktop only my toolbar shows but the black screen is still there

I'm not sure how to fix this. I have played The Sims 3 on the same laptop before and didn't have a problem like this before. I bought the game on Origin, if that helps.

I've already re-installed the base game and all my expansion packs, but the problem is still there. I have also used the Origin option that says "Repair Game" but the problem is still there.

Any help would be welcome, thanks!

@iga2001 Can you log in at the launcher? What is the version of the game - lower left in the launcher? Have you updated your video drivers? Could you post your computer's dxdiag. Thank you

Yes, I can log in at the launcher. My current version is 1.69.43.024017. I'm not sure what video drivers are, and if they are updated.

@iga2001 Go to control panel - programs and features - turn Windows features on or off - enable .net framework 3.5

@iga2001 Let's try the factory reset - here's a link - factory reset This will tell you if the game is damaged or the user data is causing the trouble.

@roberta591 This did work, but my save won't appear in the game. I dont mind this - I was planning on starting a new game anyways - but I'm curious if that will mean that my new saves that I will  make won't work?

I copied my old save to the new folder, and after that didnt work I also copied the items from CurrentGame.sims3 and pasted them into the new one.

Thank you for the help, and sorry for all the trouble you had to go through/

@iga2001 No problem - glad to help. There is no way of telling if your new user data will cause problems until you try it.

    take care.
