blondeluvgoddess Try recovering a backup save. Even if you never made one, the game keeps the data from the second-to-last time you saved. Open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3, and you'll see a folder with your save name and another folder with the same name plus a .backup extension. Rename this and delete the .backup, so the folder name ends in .sims3 , and you'll be able to select it at the Main Menu.
If this doesn't help, please let me know whether you would be willing to add a few mods to try to fix these issues. And I'd also like to know what happens when you try to go to Edit Town.
