Sims Pets installed but not showing up

So, I'm getting ready to throw this game out the window right now!

I have had Sims 3 for about a year or so now and it has always worked perfectly. This past Xmas, my sister gave me the Pets expansion pack. I tried installing it today and the installer said something about how my version of Sims is not updateable and not compatable with Sims Pets and therefore could not be installed. After a huge amount of hassle and live chats with tech support, I finally managed to install it. Or at least that's what I thought...

Pets shows up in Origin as a new game, but when I click "Play", nothing happens. Also, when I open the Sims game, the launcher doesn't show the Pets bubble lit up like the regular Sims bubble. When I go to create a new household or a new sim, there is not option for "Create a Pet" and no shelter in any of the games to adopt a pet from. 

I should mention that I updated my Sims version this morning and with all 3 live chat advisors also updated to the most recent "patch". 

I'm really at the end of my rope trying to get this silly ting to work! Can anybody help me?

    Sorry to hear about your problems, I understand that you're frustrated.

    By the sound of it, Pets isn't installed. Before you attempted to installed it, was your game version at 1.63? What I would do is manually uninstall Pets and download the super patch (regardless of whether your game is at 1.63 now or not) and then attempt to reinstall. I cannot guarantee it will work but I hope it does. Make sure you make a backup of your Sims files before you manualling uninstall as a precaution, put the file in an external location.

    Out of curiousity, is your base game a download and your Pets a disc? (Or vice versa actually) http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2013/09/dlc-compatibility-alert.html
