sims3 map icon disappear

When I open the town map under all of my sims, the little icons (market, tourist spots, etc) do not show up at all, so I can't choose destinations. I go into map view while this sim is active, the map icons don't show up. I can still interact with the buildings if I go out of map view, so this isn't too thoroughly game breaking, but it is a nuisance to have to use the other sims to navigate before switching back to him to go places.  The glith happened when I was traveling, so I couldn't  see the location to accomplish the mission.  I have restarted sims 3 times, but it doesn't work.

  • u7fsosndm1jl  NRaas Tagger is the mod that controls map tags, and simply installing it will probably fix the immediate issue.  But it's possible this is simply a symptom of save corruption, and for that, I would strongly recommend adding NRaas ErrorTrap, Overwatch, and MasterController, all described here:

Since your sims are traveling, I would also strongly recommend Traveler, and since you're playing on a Mac, I would strongly recommend Register, as I've seen some issues specifically on Macs that Register clears up.

When you load the save with the mods in place, let the game clock run for a few sim-minutes.  If the tags don't show up, click the base camp building, or an in-game computer, and select NRaas > MasterController > Town Options > Reset Everything.  This may take a few minutes to run, depending on the speed of your hardware; you'll get a notification when it's done.  Keep in mind that your sim will be teleported back to camp, so you might want to finish what you're doing first, or just teleport them back afterwards.

If the MC reset doesn't help, let the game clock run for a few more minutes, then use "save as" to rename the save (so you don't overwrite the original), quit, and reload.

Please delete the five cache files in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 as well, both now and every time you quit the game while troubleshooting.  They should be deleted regularly anyway, as they can collect stale data, and they need to be deleted when you add or remove mods or custom content.

Hopefully it's a simple fix and you don't need to do all of the above.  ErrorTrap and Overwatch do their cleanup without user input, and the other mods fix the features they govern (travel, role assignments, etc.) on their own as well.  The exception is MasterController, which does nothing at all unless you use it to issue a command.  So you could just leave these mods in place and not worry about them.

I don't have any mods installed, and I would be love to add some if they can fix the glitch.

  • u7fsosndm1jl  Do you use mods, or would you be willing to add a few?  I can suggest some that may fix the issue, and while they're useful to play with in general, you might not need to keep them installed if you really don't want to.
