Strange bug inside houses, as if roofs doesn't exist

I really need some help, 'cus I want to play Sims 3 again so much, but one terrible bug destroys all gaming process ☹️ And I haven't found anyone else having the same problem.

Two years ago, a glitch suddenly appeared while playing. The game froze for literally two seconds, and then it turned out that snow was falling on the floor inside of my house, as if there was no roof. However, the roof was still there. I clicked on the floor in the house, but the game treats it as if it were an outside (sim could only walk or play with water balloons / snowballs). I tried removing the roof and putting it back in place, reloading the area and the entire map with the MasterController, starting a new game or deleting absolutely all mods and saves and disable some addons (I have Gold Edition) - nothing helped.

I completely uninstalled the game two years ago and now decided to reinstall it, but the bug still there and nothing helps. I think that this error may be cus' of my laptop, but it’s strange: my game worked just fine for a five years, but got bugged literally out of nowhere and nothing can fix it. By the way, I'm playing on Windows 7.

  • @hjnm4mmsje2t  This issue usually means that the area in question is not considered part of an enclosed room.  It can also happen in an attic when the roof forms at least one of the walls.  So please make sure the room is enclosed.  If you don't want to mess with your current house, try playing on a different lot in a house you make from scratch.  It can just be a box; this is for testing purposes only.  And it's fine to start a new save rather than using your current one.

To save time, you can cheat the season and weather.  Bring up the cheats console (ctrl-shift-C) and enter testingcheatsenabled true , then shift-click the ground and select Seasons to see your options.

Unfortunately it didn't work. Even if I create a tiny room without windows, doors and with a roof (of any size), the game still does not perceive the floors inside the house as an "indoor" room, only as outside. Public lots has the same issue.

Of course I can turn off the weather so that my sims’ houses don’t get wet in the rain or get covered in snow, but I would still like to find a solution to the problem, since I want to play with all the addons. But I think the problem here is really in my laptop. It's strange that this bug appeared suddenly during the play time (game was working stably for a very long time) and full reinstallation did not help.

@hjnm4mmsje2t  Do you have an AMD graphics card or chip?  If you're not sure, please go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3, open DeviceConfig.log, scroll to about 30 lines down, and you'll see the GPU the game is using.

If you do have an AMD GPU, try this edit:

It's ostensibly for a different problem, but I've seen one report that it helped with weather inside the house too, also with an AMD graphics card.

No, I have an NVIDIA GeForce GT 720M and an Intel core (they can be switched, as I already did, but it did not help), if I looked correctly in the settings in Notepad. Just in case, I checked GraphicsRules, but RenderShadowMode is already set to 2. I also changed the graphics settings inside the game: I set it to high, medium and low, but the problem remained the same.

@hjnm4mmsje2t  It's possible this problem showed up the last time your laptop updated its graphics driver.  The last driver available for the GT 720M is from 2019, but that doesn't mean it installed right away.  In case you want to compare driver versions, this is the newest one:

    https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/145873/en-us/

Please also try switching off Advanced Rendering if it's on, or vice versa.  Do so at the Main Menu, then quit to desktop before loading a save.

Other than that, I'm not sure what you can do here.  It's difficult to address one-off problems like this on older hardware and an older OS for a few reasons, not the least of which is that some software has continued to receive updates while other software does not.  For example, a Windows update could have broken this feature as well, with up-to-date graphics drivers compensating but not those that had already been released.
