Sudden game lag

I had saved a game every time I played it and everything but I decided to send my Sims family to Egypt but when they arrived the Sims weren't there and the Sims thumbnails weren't on the left of the screen. I didnt know what had happened so I saved the game and quitted it. But then I went into it after and checked edit town, the Sims are still in the house in Bridgeport but I cant play the game at all. The only option I can choose is edit town. And when I go into the game inventory all my games are there with the pictures of the houses except for the current game and the photos of a blank family. This may be confusing but someone has to know how to help!
