Switching to Steam - Can I still use Store content I bought?
I want to buy the complete The Sims 3 collection on Steam to, in all honesty, avoid the EA App and the endless barage of issues that periodically crop up while using it, which cause me to spend way too much time on trying to find fixes and workarounds, deleting, reinstalling, restarting, etc., instead of playing the darn game.
However, over the years I've accumulated quite a few sets, worlds and items from the official Sims 3 Store. If I buy a new base game + expansions on Steam, can I still use my registered account (with the old, Origin/EA App base game key I used to create it) to download the items I've purchased?
If so, is this how I should do it: uninstall The Sims 3 and all associated content, purchase the complete collection on Steam, install, go to The Sims 3 using my old (Origin/EA App) account, download Store items, which will install with the newly downloaded Launcher?
Does it work like this? Or do I have to register the Steam base game code into my existing The Sims 3 webpage account, to be able to use the old account with the new launcher? Or, is this impossible, and I need to use the new base game (Steam) code to create a brand new account, thus losing all the Store items I've already bought using my old Origin/EA App account?
Thanks in advance!
@username12333 You can use your existing Store content in a Steam install. You'll need to register at least the base game product code you receive from Steam, or else the Store won't know that the Steam install of Sims 3 belongs to you. But you should get 1000 SimPoints for the base game plus another 1000 for World Adventures, so it's convenient to do so anyway. You do not need to link your Steam and EA accounts.
You'll also need to download and install fresh copies of all your Store items. I'd suggest starting with a clean Sims 3 folder, installing your Store items, then moving over whatever you want to keep from the old folder. But if that's too much hassle, at least delete all the .ebc files in DCCache, plus everything in DCBackup including ccmerged.package—you'll want the game to create a fresh ccmerged as you reinstall the Store content.
