The Sims 3 : Generations

I have just recently purhased The Sims 3 : Generations Expansion Pack, and whenever I insert the disk it tells me that I have to download the Sims 3 before playing . But I have no idea what that means, or how to even begin . Also, this is my very first time ever having a Sims game. Please help .

    The Sims 3 Generations is an expansion pack, you need to also have The Sims 3 base game so that you can play. Once you buy The Sims 3 base game, you'll have to install it, only after it's installed will you be able to install and play The Sims 3 Generations expansion pack.
