TSR downloads won't install

Hello, I have some downloads from The Sims Resource that I had installed on TS3 weeks ago previously on this Windows 11 PC. At that time, the downloads worked fine. My sister has the same downloads and they work fine on her PC. What happens is, when I check off the content and click "Install" on the launcher, it loads the content about halfway then stops, and the content still shows as uninstalled.

I am not great with computers, so I went all-out to try to fix this. I reset my PC; I re-installed EA; re-installed my games; made sure I had the correct Windows redistributable files and DirectX version; ensured Windows and all drivers were up to date; and I deleted all my TSR content then re-downloaded the content from The Sims Resource. Still, the first thing I re-downloaded- something I had installed before with no issues- would not install through the launcher. Some TSR content will install, but not all.

I don't know what else to do :( I appreciate any help.

  • So right after I thanked you and told you the game seemed to be working, without changing anything to my computer, I restarted my PC, then I just opened the game but it crashed and I got an error message, shown in attachment. I also have another thread in here concerning installation of CC so I will include that here in case the 2 are related.

  • michellefree89  When you say you reset your PC, do you mean you wiped it?  If so, did you save any Sims 3-related data and restore it afterwards?  If not, is it possible some data is there anyway?  For example, OneDrive could have synced your files and downloaded your content after the reset.

The point is, old content could be the problem here, so please have a look and let me know whether anything is there.  If OneDrive did download your content, that would probably include old saves, so check the Saves folder inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.

Please also let me know whether this Sims 3 folder is inside the OneDrive folder in general.

Edit:  I've moved your other post into this thread so we can keep all the information about your current issues in one place.  Please let me know whether you can play if you restart your computer immediately before you try.

Well, it wasn't a total wipe since I reset the PC locally, not through the cloud and kept my files, so I just had to re-install my apps and programs.

I don't use OneDrive at all so I had disabled it as a startup app and disabled it on the task menu before re-installing the Sims. I am reluctant to remove it from my PC completely though because I run into other PC issues when I do that. I do not have anything in my Saves folder but I do see there is an Electronic Arts folder located inside the OneDrive folder. So really, I have 2 Electronic Arts folders., which I'm sure is causing the conflict.

I did restart the PC then tried to play the game right after but it still crashed in the middle of loading before getting to the Main Menu, and I got the same error message.

I don't know how to keep OneDrive from backing up the EA folder so I'm gonna see if someone at MS support can help me with that. I'll let you know how the game works afterward!

I deleted my entire documents folder from OneDrive on both the Cloud and on the PC then restarted my PC and started the game but I am having the same issues with my downloads not installing and the game crashing before it gets to the Main Menu, showing the same error message.

No, as I said I deleted the entirety of my Documents folder which would include my Downloads folder. I removed it off the Cloud and my PC. I just went back to my OneDrive cloud and folder and also removed the Desktop from both the Cloud and folder (the Desktop contains the Sims 3.exe file).

After I did that last part, my downloads installed fine but I was still having trouble with the game crashing. I deleted all the mods in my Mods folder and re-installed all my mods off the ModTheSims website, and NOW my game does not crash at all.

    Finally. 😳

Thank you so much for your help!!!!! Would've never gotten this game to work if not for you.

  • michellefree89  What I meant was, there is a specific way to stop your computer from using the Documents folder inside the OneDrive folder, and I was wondering if you'd done that.  Uninstalling OneDrive isn't enough to prevent the system from using its folder, but preventing OneDrive from syncing Documents, as you did, should be sufficient to move the Documents directory back to the default location.

Anyway, I'm glad your game is fixed now.
