The Sims 3 installation CRC error post-updating to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8.

It is a common known fact that, when updating your system from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, you have to redownload everything you have no matter if you have the files. The only thing that is kept is your documents.

A few weeks after completing the process (updating windows), I decided to come back to play The Sims 3. I knew I had to redownload, and my content packs (Late Night, Seasons and University Life) with it. Upon beginning the redownload from Origin itself (after inserting the disc), the wizard setup (I think that's what its called) began.

After about a 1/3 of the setup had finished, it became stuck on the following section:

C:\...\The Sims 3\GameData\Shared\Packages\FullBuild0.package

It then pops up with a 'Feature Transfer Error', which says the following:

File: D:\GameData\Shared\Packages\FullBuild0.package

Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check).

and the options 'retry' and 'cancel'

I have retried many a time, and it still brings me back here or the place below, where I have previously become stuck:

C:\...\The Sims 3\GameData\Shared\Packages\DeltaBuild1.package

I do not know if there is a fix to get past this, as I wish to play The Sims 3 soon and do not wish to be stuck on this section forever, unable to play The Sims 3 ☹️ PLEASE HELP

  • I'll assume yopu are installing from disc. A crc error is data corruption during the transfer from disc to hard drive (simple explanation). The files that cause this error are large files. My guess there is a problem in the micro code that controls the data flow (again simple explanation). Some people have posteed success by defrag their system drive, As the optical drive is a mechanical device it may be starting to fail. Replacing the drive with a kn own good drive usually corrects the problem. another solution could be to get the digital download version from Origin (free).
