The Sims 3 on mac taking up around 120gb on hard disk

@kelboe123  I've moved your post to the Sims 3 Mac section.  You're right, the game shouldn't take up anywhere near 120 GB—it should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 GB, maybe 35 at most.

Please open Applications\The Sims 3, right-click on the Sims 3 base game icon, and select Get Info.  Let me know how large it is, and if it is in fact 120 GB, please check the contents as well.  Right-click on the base game icon and select Show Package Contents.  From there, open Contents, then Resources, right-click on the AddOns folder, and let me know how large it is as well.  Then open AddOns and check the size of each pack.  You don't need to list them all, but they should range from around 1.5 GB for later packs to 3.77 GB for World Adventures.  (I have that one installed, but not all of them.)  Into the Future should be larger, but still maybe in the range of 6 GB.

Once we know exactly where the extra data is, it's easy enough to figure out what should in fact be there and what can safely be deleted.

Only installed the base game + world adventures and it's already taking up 22gb of space..

@kelboe123  Yeah, that's way too much storage for the base game and one pack.  Please go into the package contents and check how much storage the AddOns folder is using.  In the same Contents\Resources folder, please do the same with the transgaming folder.

@kelboe123  Okay, I just reinstalled the base game and WA, nothing else, and then ran the Super Patch, and the total storage is 11.69 GB.  AddOns is 3.77 GB, and transgaming was 7.84 GB.  (Launching the game once didn't change those numbers.)  So it seems that both folders have extra data that shouldn't be there.

Please open the AddOns folder, take a screenshot of what you see there, and list the size of each file or folder.  Then go back to the Resources folder, and open

transgaming > c_drive > Program Files > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3

You should see four folders in there: Caches, Game, GameData, and Thumbnails.  Let me know the size of each.  Inside the Electronic Arts folder, you should only see the Sims 3 folder and a World Adventures alias (shortcut), as in, a folder with a little arrow to signify that it's just a shortcut to the real folder.  Let me know how large this World Adventures folder is, and if you see any other folders as well.

Please also let me know what version of macOS your computer runs.

@kelboe123  That's weird that the base game would be in the AddOns folder—the only thing in there should be a World Adventures icon.  Please look inside the transgaming folder as well, as I described before.

@puzzlezaddict I also see both "The Sims 3" and "The Sims 3 World Adventures" folders.
