University Travel Bug - Sims 3

Hi!

On my game I sent my two young adults to university. When the game loaded it was as if they had never existed. I was prompted to start a new game with a new family. I have tried several different fixes:

Going back to edit my home town and going back to university... when I did this I couldn't get back to university. Whenever I clicked to edit university or return to game, I was brought back to the home town.

Playing as a random sim to travel back to the home city, find people who know my sims, play as them, invite my sims over, switch households... when the sim I was playing as tried to drop out of university, the travel screen got stuff when it was almost done and wouldn't finish travelling.

Installing mass controller mod to find my sims... the mod would not download and I was asked to pay for the "zip" site to download further mods.

I would really appreciate any help with this. It's been a long time I've been playing as these sims and I'm not ready to let it go yet.

Thanks!

@3_rolyat_3  The other mods will fix issues, not make your game worse.  All of them come with preset options that work just fine without your needing to make adjustments.  And all three will work in the background to clean up your game, so even if you're not going to travel right away, they'll help you.  By the way, only Traveler is specifically travel-related.  ErrorTrap and Overwatch fix game issues in general—everything from stuck sims and sims that won't age up to abandoned cars and random piles of laundry.  I would never play without them, even if I had no intention of traveling.

I'm not sure whether you read the tutorial I linked, but the other step you need to complete for a new mod to show up is to delete the scriptCache.package file in your game folder.  In fact, it would be a good idea to delete all five cache files right now, before you play again.  They can fill up with useless junk very quickly, and many of us delete them after every game session.  (They regenerate every time you load the game.)  For reference, they are:

    CASPartCache.package

    compositorCache.package

    scriptCache.package

    simCompositorCache.package

    socialCache.package

I understand that they will make things easier, but I'm just so lost as it is. I don't want to try to upload any more mods until I figure out at least how to get these working. I also figure that checking for mass controller is a lot easier than checking for the others. (But then again, what would I know?) I added the nointro... not exactly sure what intro it's supposed to get rid of. I restarted the game and noticed nothing out of the ordinary.

I did actually read the link, but I must have missed that part about deleting the files. I deleted them and plan to after every time I play.

Loaded into the game yet again with no luck as for the mods. I just really don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

@3_rolyat_3  Okay, why don't we start over, just to eliminate a bunch of potential issues at once.  First of all, what is the patch level of your game?  You can see it in the lower left corner of the launcher.  Both 1.67 and 1.69 are current, but any earlier and we'd know why the mods weren't working.

So:  Pull your entire TS3 game folder out of Documents and onto your desktop.  Then launch the game up to the Main Menu (no need to load a town), which will spawn a clean folder with no content, including no mods.  (Your saves will be in your old folder, but leave them there for now.)  Then go into your new game folder and delete the five cache files listed above.  Create your Mods folder, and inside of it place the resource.cfg file and make a Packages folder.  (Note:  The resource file does not go into the Packages folder, it sits in the Mods folder next to Packages.)  And make sure that the M in Mods and the P in Packages are capitalized.

Next, go to NRaas and download the MasterController base mod only, but make sure it's the one that works with patch levels 1.66-1.69.  (It's the first download listed.)  Unzip the file and place it in Mods\Packages.  Launch your game again.  When you get to the Main Menu, you should see a popup telling you that the game has detected MasterController.

Once you've done this, let me know whether the mod shows up at the Main Menu.

It's 1.69 - I checked that a little while ago just to be sure it wasn't the issue.

Before I saw your post, I re-downloaded all of my mods and restarted the game. Or course, it didn't work.

I did notice that this whole time my resource file has been inside the packages with my other mods and not next to the mod file. Could this have been the whole issue?

So should I try your plan or try starting it up one last time with the resource in the right spot?

It seems to have worked. I moved the file to the desktop. My expansion packs seemed to disappear. (Luckily I have a game with no expansion packs so I tested the mods on this.) The mod worked and by moving the file back, I could activate the expansion packs again. Things seem to be looking up. I'm going to try going onto my game and going to university again.

    Wish me luck!

IT WORKED!!!! I'm so excited! I don't know what exactly made it work but I'm glad it's fine. Thank you so much for everything you've done. Tonight has been a very long night but I couldn't be any happier to get my game back on track.

I don't think I told you earlier, but I did attempt to download all of the mods you suggested. The only ones that seemed to work were mass controller, overwatch, and error... not sure why the others never came through.

I can't thank you enough for all of your help!

@3_rolyat_3  I'm so glad to hear that.  The problem with the others might just be that you tried to download them all at once, but now you know what to do to add them to your game at a later point.  I still think that Traveler would be useful to you, but as long as you have backups and are willing to revert to a previous save should anything go wrong, you'll be okay.

Enjoy your game, and if you have any other questions, you know where to find me.

I think now that things are back on track and I have a few tricks up my sleeve, I'll be ok. I don't really travel too often (I don't have World Adventures) so this issue is minimal.

Thanks again, and I'll be sure to ask you if I need anything else!
