Umm.....but to recap:
Sims3 and Sims After Dark ran just fine on this laptop via Steam. It's only after attempting to download and run Supernatural via Origin that things got wonky.
There's "not running well," and then there's "not running at all."
Did you ever try if you can play the unpatched game ? See every patch adds new stuff to the point where it doesn't work anymore.
So as a test, try just installing the base game and not patching at all, then see if it runs.

Before I uninstall and reinstall again (again), let me ask: how would processing speed and graphics chip have a detrimental effect between Sims3 and Supernatural? I've seen both run on a different terminal, and it's not like Supernatural runs at a higher resolution or screen refresh rate than the base game, or anything.
Also, regarding patches (if it comes to that point), can I do just the USA patch or Region 17 patch (since it was a download), or do I have to do the superpatch?

It adds more content to your game. Even the patches do.
See this example: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Your_Computer_is_Like_a_Car

As for the patch: If you are one version lower than the current patch, you can use the incremental patch (so if you were at 1.55, you can use the incremental one to 1.57. If you're lower than that, you need to use the super patch.

I'm sorry but I don't have any other suggestions for you. Maybe someone else can help you further. You can also try if someone in the official forum has an idea for you or contact a EA Games advisor through live chat.
