Which laptop is appropriate for The sims 3 nowadays?

Hello, my issue is that The sims 3 isn't running well on my laptop, it's lagging, it's win 10, DELL (not sure the type exactly). I would like to buy a new one but I'm not sure which one is appropriate for it. I've read many times that it doesn't work on win 10, sometimes even on win 8... So should I look for laptop with win 7? Do you have any ideas which laptop is good for this game, please? (Which one do you use?) Maybe some gaming laptop? I need it for current use as well. I'm desperate, It's very important for me. Thank you. ☹️ 🙂

  • @Beth1346790  I've looked recently for a couple other players in the U.K., and the cheapest laptop that would run TS3 on the highest settings costs £600.  The problem is, below a certain level of hardware, performance drops off dramatically.  The new low-end graphics cards should be fine for TS3, and they are fine for similar games, but people who have actually tried to play with them almost invariably report significant lag, stutter, and/or an inability to run the more demanding expansion packs at all.  (Those would be Pets, Seasons, then Into the Future and Isla Paradiso.)  So there really is a floor on what you can buy, and what you can spend, on the computer.

For reference, this is the model I found.  It has a good enough processor and graphics card and plenty of storage on the large HDD.  Asus makes great gaming laptops, even at the entry level.

You're right that you wouldn't want a Mac—the models that can properly run TS3 cost over £2000.  TS3 runs just fine in Windows 10, without any special interventions.

  • @Beth1346790  I play on a Bootcamped MacBook Pro, running an original install of Windows 10 build 1803.  I've never had a problem running TS3, although I did turn off a few features of the Creator's Update from the previous year.  Plenty of people play in Windows 10, and there is rarely an issue that can't be addressed.

I can write out the specs you'd need to run TS3 with all packs on high settings, if you want.  Or, if you prefer, I could look around for some good options.  Just post your budget and country, as well as anything else you'd like to do with the laptop: play other games, use Photoshop, have lots of extra storage, etc.  I can usually find something suitable on sale for $800 U.S.; prices will vary in other countries.  But you may want to spend a bit extra for a stronger graphics card or a larger solid state drive, which would make your loading times significantly faster.

I can also take a look at your current laptop, to see whether the issues are due to hardware or maybe something that can be fixed.  If you'd like me to, please run a dxdiag and attach the results to a post here.

Thank u for the respond and I'm sorry for the delay.. Well I would like to know about a particular laptop that could run TS3 without any problems. I don't actulaly care If is it win 10 but probably not a macbook. I don't need any special things, special graphic or something, I don't understand these things much. I want to use the laptop as an usual computer, If u know what I mean. Write documents, watch movies and so on, nothing special. Just a normal one but I need it to be able run the sims 3 without stopping all the time, stutter, crushing... u know in another pc or laptops I used to play it was always slowly, stutter just a little bit but on this laptop it's very often and it takes a long time and it's very annoying the way I can't stand it.
I live in the UK. I'm willing to spend about 400£ maybe? Hope it's gonna be alright even in win10.
I don't know anything about this laptop so I can't say any details If ure interested in issues of this one in relation to ts3.
    Thank u so much.

@puzzlezaddict I'm not sure If I understand clearly. The cheapest one what was u talking about (the dropping off, stuttering and so on) is the one in the reference? Or different one that should run TS3 well?

@Beth1346790  The £600 laptop I linked would run TS3 very well, with all settings on high or ultra.  Its hardware is the minimum needed to handle the game.  The next level down from that hardware is where you get performance issues, i.e. stuttering and fps drops, and maybe crashing when the game gets particularly demanding.
