Charity Shop / Thrift Store

In the real world I buy most of my clothing second-hand as I love vintage clothing from the 1960s/1970s, I know this isn't unique, a lot of people do whether they love vintage or just love the planet and choose not to buy new. I don't play as myself in The Sims but would love to create a retro loving character stuck in the 1950s/1960s/1970s.

We have the flea market option but I'd love to see the possibility of opening a second hand shop/charity shop/thrift store full of vintage clothing and even furniture with a few items popping up from The Sims/2/3. It could fit under retail or be an addition to the flea market with a couple of clothing rails or tied in with the eco pack. The knitting pack already shows locked clothing when you change a sims outfits and this could work in a similar way, just as flea market furniture is locked. It could even be a charity shop/thrift store that would allow sims to volunteer in, okay they won't get paid but would earn the retail skills prior to forking out for their own store, teens volunteering could also gain empathy. Those that want to profit from vintage could open their own store and set their own prices. The quality could also vary but (this might be a big ask) there could be a repair skill or linked in to knitting that allows Sims to repair the vintage clothing they've bought, they may then choose to sell it on via Plopsy and make a profit as they've improved the quality of the item.

Hopefully this isn't too rambling but I do love vintage.
  • There are some vintage looking clothes and furniture items in the game that you could set up a vintage shop with. There is even the option to salvage and restore discarded furniture and appliances from the dumpster.

Nothing that fits with the 1960s or 1970s, Sims 3 had a stuff pack for 70s/80s/90s stuff which was ace. None of the clothes really cover any particular trends of past decades apart some items that would fit with the 1950s.

I can't say I've looked specifically for vintage clothing but there's enough to make a store, if you look through all the swatches. I imagine there will be a lot of different stuff not related to one particular time period in a thrift store.
  • As a shameless thrift shopper, hard agree. Wouldn't it be cool if Sims could buy old or broken stuff and restore it? (I know we kind of have that option already with Eco Lifestyle and dumpster diving, but I've noticed that with the amount spent on "salvaging" stuff, you might as well save money and time buying it new in the first place. I wish higher handiness skill allowed you to repair furniture.)

That so reminds me of when my daughter was a baby, I needed to shop at the Salvation Thrift Store, Goodwill & Value Village. Most of her stuff were actually brand new, it was so nice.

I buy around 85% of my items second-hand, you can get some really great stuff some items of clothing that I've bought, over forty years old have been so gorgeous to look at but also great quality. You can't beat finding a bargain.
  • I would like a stuff pack with more vintage furniture and clothes, anything older than 1950 is good. I know there are some fine pieces in Vampire pack, but I will not buy that until they add a proper toggle for randomly generated vampires.
  • Yes, and it would be nice if the Flee Market Festival in CL had more unique items cycled. They could be broken as well, needing to be fixed up. It is so much fun to play sims that are economically and environmentally mindful.
