I need some suggestions for rooms/areas

I am not good at building houses or interior designs, but am trying to improve my skills by using house listings as inspiration. I stumbled across a building that seemed to be an okay warm up, but the rooms?? Yea... Let's just say the original designer of this house did some choices.

List of areas:

  1. Bedroom
  2. Dining area
  3. Kitchen
  4. Bathroom
  5. Hallway
  6. Entrance
  7. Tv-area / livingroom
  8. Living room
  9. Living room
  10. Patio

So, apart from number 7, everything is as close as you can get to the original house. The thing is; Originally both 7 and 9 seemed to be dining areas, and 8 was more of a living room situation with a couple of couches, a coffee table and some cabinets and a book case. No tv in the entire house lol.

So, my sim does not need 3 dining areas. I am considering moving the kitchen to area 7, have a dining area in 8, and couches with tv + reading nook in 9. But then what am I going to do with 2 and 3?

Do you have any ideas and suggestions on what I should do? I am happy with the bedroom, entrance and bathroom so far. The stair has to stay where it is at. But other than that I am open for any input.

  • When I first started building, I'd look up real life floor plans online, and try to copy with allowances for Sims constraints and dimensions as best I could.

One way to help, is as a form of practice (you do not have to save), play around with trying to copy your own room/home/apartment space. You can see where Sims falls short, or has issues with real life floor plants and dimensions.

Also, it doesn't hurt to look up Feng Shui "do's", "don'ts" and "fixes", for cheats too.

Oh and I'd also probably get rid of the wasted space in hallway 5. Now that it isn't needed to lead from the door to the kitchen, I would change 4's door to be an ensuite to 3, and put 6's door on the lower wall so that it's accessed through the entryway. Then I'd ideally move the staircase to the right, against the wall of rooms 4 and 6, and delete the wall to the living to make it feel bigger. And probably make the stairs double wide.

Or, if you can't move the stairs because of whatever's on the next floor, I'd still delete the wall to the living room to open the stairs up, still make the stairs double wide, and then make 4 and 6 wider to use up the old hallway space. If I did this, then I'd probably make the master suite bigger too, stealing some space from 4 to make the bedroom itself bigger. Anyway, looks fun! I love re-swizzling floor plans.

Hi Gurkeprinsen, I think your idea to move the kitchen is a good one! For the rest, personally what I would probably do is turn 3 into a bedroom. Remove the door on the bottom wall of 3, put up a wall between 2 and 3, and put a door in it right across from 1's door. And then wall off the top part of 2 and make it a bathroom. That way, from the living room, you enter a little "hall", with a bedroom to the left and another to the right, and then a bathroom right in front of you.

Now you've got another bathroom, so if you want you could rearrange the old bathroom (4) and add a door leading into 3 so that 4 becomes the ensuite for 3. Or, if only one bathroom is enough, you could make 4 into a little office/study area, or a craft/art room, or whatever you want! Tons of space in this house, lots of possibilities.
