Also, I read through and just wanted to note this in the rules.Before you can adopt children, you must have your sim find and get married to a mate.
Obviously, it's your save, so you can play it how you want to, but I just wanted to note this for you.

Since I don't have the Lifestyle expansion, I can't speak for that. However, Likes and Dislikes should just be normal, none applied in CAS, but if the popup appears, the answer should always be "Yes". You could then modify the life of your sim based on that. For instance, during a period when the baby was asleep, I got a notification saying Stewart wanted to like video games. I would then set up a gaming side career for him.
