No CC Decades Outfits 2.0

In 2021 the simmer ashubii  started a thread by this name, which served as an inspiration to several of us. Now like many other threads the screenshots did not get transferred over, nor did it end up in the Sims 4 community but in the Sims Franchise Discussion instead. Since the OP does not seem to be active any longer, I have taken it on myself to salvage the post and its contents, as well as making it easy for more of us to contribute and build on the idea.

The original (with links instead of pictures) can be found here

All credit for the idea and first post should go to ashubii , I'm just trying to make sure nothing gets lost.

Finally a little tip that has helped me a great deal. It does involve a mod (MCCC), but I figured it can't hurt anyway:

How to use the MCCC dresser function to make sure NPCs are dressed appropriately
  1. In CAS, create sims that are dressed in clothes you want to see on your NPCs. You need infant, toddler, child, teen/YA/adult and elders of both genders represented (MCCC can't distinguish between teen, YA or adult fashion, so all those will be in one category). Make sure to include accessories, as they will be included in the outfit.
  2. Move your sims into a house and load it.
  3. Click each sim, choose the MCCC-meny, choose dresser, outfit commands and finally save outfit.
  4. Do this for each and every outfit you want your NPC sims to wear. (Yes, it's tedious, but so is changing everyone manually too). The more outfits you save, the more variation in the game.
  5. When finished make sure there is a computer on the lot. Click the computer and the MCCC menu.
  6. Choose dresser menu - Only Use Saved Outfits (means all new NPC will be generated in your chosen outfits) - Ages to Run on Age-Up (means sims will wear your chosen outfits when aging up. At minimum choose infant, toddler, child, teen and YA. Adults and elders will just keep their clothes in that case.)

Rinse and repeat every decade or so.

90s fashion turned out to be much harder than I had expected. This is the time when I was a teenager, so you'd think it be easy! Instead I kept thinking that people just wore "normal clothes" and that made it so much more difficult.

So instead of my usual three posts, I'm going to settle for one joint post and instead highlight a few trends that were popular. I'll skip the kids, as most of what is in game would work, and focus on adults.

    First out: Moms.

Here I've mixed what I've seen in the Sears and JC Penny catalogues with what I remember my own mother wearing. A lot of jackets with t-shirts or sweaters underneath combined with either jeans or fairly long flowing skirts. Other trends were mixing these with knitwork or oversized sweaters with bold prints, but we don't have too many of those.

    Oversized clothes:

A major trend in the 90s. Here I've comprised them in three looks that works in game.

    Hip Hop

This started in the 80s but was still going strong in the early 90s. This might be the only decade where I will allow the game to use the middle outfit, although likely not as I still hate the look.

    Grunge:

Another huge trend was of course the grunge trend. There is an entire kit for this, but as I don't own it I've done the best with what I have, meaning a lot of the werewolf pack.

    Some generic 90s outfits:

Not everyone had a distinct style. Most of us just wore "clothes" so I made a few looks for the more generic 90s-style, including a little nod to the trend my friends loved - the 70s-look!

    Neon colors and fitness outfits:

Were still inspired by the 80s, but now aerobics were in fashion. Neon colors were still popular but now on black background. I even had a sofa with neon patterns on a black fabric in my room, but not so many clothes as I remember. Maybe in the early 90s.

    ME!

Finally, something I had great fun with. Making my teenage self. This, is a very good representation of what I wore, with the very tight, formfitting jeans being a staple. I had more fun with these outfits than with any other, I think I even got the hair, jewelry and make-up fairly accurate to what I looked like. Note that my work-out wear looked nothing like the trend, but in gym class, oversized t-shirt and bicycle shorts was what everyone was wearing.

For the noughties I've done something differently. Like with the 90s I've tried to focus on new styles rather than a full set of options for clothing, as there is so much to choose from. What I've done is that I've created a family. Dad, mom, two teenagers and two children (with toddlers and infants you can pretty much use everything in game by now). So let's start with dad.

    Dad:

According to the catalogue fashion of the time (Sears and JC Penny) there were two types of men. The one who wore suits and sports jackets or at least shirts and chinos, and the rustic outdoors man with jeans, checkered shirts, knitted sweaters or layer on layer shirts over tops. Both had short hair (or shaved hair if he was growing bald) and a few days stubble. Colors he wore were earth tones, brown, blue, green, and some dark reds.

    Teen and YA boys:

For teen boys the massive trend was spiky hair (this is not spiky enough) and t-shirt over a long sleeved shirt. Jeans could be really tight or really baggy and show off underwear, the type of pants that looked like it might fall off at any moment. Cargo pants were also popular, as were leather jackets. If you wanted to dress up, a black vest over a white T-shirt at least worked for Zac Effron.

    Mom:

For adult women, the catalogue has a few different trends for everyday wear. Boot cut jeans, shirts that hang a little loose, and embroidery and "country" style, with some boho influences. Boots included the new sock-boot, which were very tight. Knitwear was also popular for women, and in the same earthy tones as men's fashion.

For dressing up, there was also a lot of trends going on. The "bandaged" dress was popular, but this was also the time of Halle Berrys fantastic Oscar gown, so obviously mom has gone for a look that is inspired by it. But women also started wearing suits more in festive events, and shiny satin tops combined with black skirts with uneven hemlines were also popular.

For underwear the big news was spanks and other shape changing underwear, and for swimsuits the new trend was the tankini.

    Teen and YA girls:

What at 20-something should have been my fashion but never was (I was much more for the adult boho-trend), the major question for teens and young girls, was how low can you go without showing off your groin? Extremely low cut jeans, often coupled with crop tops was the major trend. The jeans could be replaced by cargo-pants that sat so low on the hip that any pockets probably were useless as added weight would probably make them slip off . Other major trends were the handkerchief-top and super short skirts. There was also a trend for baggy sweatpants riding low on your hip, but I didn't like the options in game for those.

For party wear this girl has gone for the asymmetric hemline in one dress at the bandaged look in one.

    Kids:

For kids it's much easier in game to find several options of the t-shirt over shirt variant, for both boy sand girls. It's harder to find the trend "I try to dress like an adult" for girls which was the thing. Girls might not have had heals, but a lot of their looks were inspired by teen/young adult outfits. I've tried to do my best with the third look here.

Thanks! It's funny that the one decade that should be dead easy because I lived it was the hardest, possibly because it was hard to distance myself from the fashion.
