Platform Grievances

I downloaded a great house from the Gallery and just went through it all and altering it. Halfway through, I realized that for some reason, the creator put a foundation under it . I was puzzled by this because the garage was on a foundation. Instead of trying to rid of it then, I decided to go with it. After a day of working on it, I saved and quit.

Today, I loaded it up and found that the foundation had raised. After trying to flatten it again, I realized that when I flatten the foundation, it goes directly to the lower level of build mode (underground). I discovered it's actually a platform that the house is sitting on. I'm not sure why this was done.

I was able to lower the platform down to the lowest it could go like it was originally done. But now I'm just angry there was a platform to begin with.

Now I just need to if there IS a way to get rid of the platform altogether without ruining the home and if every time I load the house, it's going to pop up again.

  • I hear you. Some builders go completely nuts with the platforms. They're nice when they're used effectively (see pick below of a house I downloaded form the gallery), but they can cause all sorts of problems when overused. I'll never begin to understand putting a garage on a platform (or a foundation for that matter). I downloaded a house like that once, but I converted the garage to a laboratory. As far as I'm aware the simplest solution is to use the platform lowering feature, instead of the whole level lowering feature that you would use for the foundations. It's still a pain when you're talking about a whole house.

It looks it was designed by Rube Goldberg, but it's actually very convenient and easy to navigate, for the people who live here and the sheep.

  • That is unfortunate. I cannot tell from the pic which is the garage. Is it possible to experiment with:

    • take a top-down layout screenshot...
    • save the rooms to your library, or moving them to and unused basement level, then...
    • delete the platforms and recreate the same room with walls...
    • then re-place each room.

I've seen that before when apparently someone did not realize that platforms are not foundations, and it can cause confusion.
