sad moodlets after death

somehow after making this post, it got worse.

in the past few days five townies that my sims knew died and i've spent most of my time watching my sims "cry it out" or "give yourself a pep talk". the sadness hotline is no doubt sick of them now. two of those townies were close friends, but three were brief acquaintances.

i think this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. i can't have my sims falling into depression every time someone they met on the street once dies

The phone thing is a problem that has been heavily discussed. Really doesn't make any sense to even get a text message about a person you weren't friends with saying they are about to die or have passed away. It's just a game mechanic they introduced to let you know the sim is about to get culled out of existence.

I want a Sim to have more sympathy not to someone you just met but like the Sims 3 you know a neighbor family member died so you call them or visit them to give your condolences. Or like a family member in your house die and a few come by to give their condolences when your in a sad state. But being sad for 6 days for a Sim is crazy bananas. The moodlet from a fire being stressed for that long is crazy bananas. some moodlet I get but others it's like come on really?

The phone think is a problem especially when they congratulate you on an engagement or marriage all you say is ok. Like I would say thank you so much.

Players complained that Sims were ignoring the deaths of loved ones who weren't in the household so they added the phone call/sad moodkets. If it's possible, all they need to do is tone it down a bit and base time periods on the relationship. Perhaps if an acquaintance dies, the Sim is sad for 8 hours (about the same time an Embarrassed or Angry moodlet lasts for a work school negative event), if it's a friend then 1 day (24 hours) and if it's a close/best friend or a family member (parent/child/sibling) go the full 2 days. And actions like crying it out, calling the sadness hotline etc. can help lessen the mourning time.

It's kind of messed up. One time I killed a sim when she was visiting a lot where 8 others lived, two of those sims got the sad moodlet and they had literally just met her... meanwhile one of the sims who lived with her got absolutely nothing, even though she witnessed the death. It was super weird having these two girls just autonomously go weep at her grave every other sim hour, when they barely even knew her...

I really like how the memory system in TS2 handled death. Sims would sometimes just randomly reminisce about a friend or relative who died a long time ago, even if it happened several life stages ago. The death stayed with them forever and it honestly felt so realistic. Wish TS4 had that.

I can understand witnessing a death (even of a Sim they don't know) could make them upset for a few hours. Days on end is frustrating.

I like to play with aging on normal or fast. (Most of my families tend to be ghosts, vampires, or both, so the aging is really just to get through toddlerhood and childhood.) But since my Sims aren't aging like everyone else, they are constantly getting phones calls about the random NPC who died that they only met once. I think they're sad more days than not. And it doesn't seem like there's any workaround. I've tried using vampire powers to manipulate emotions, potions, and the sadness alleviation lotion. When they're sad about death, they don't like to let go of it.

Only vampires with dampened emotions seem truly unaffected by it. And they're not affected by, well... anything.

Seems the best solution is just insist they only socialize with other immortals. >.<

(We got more tense as time went on, because our neighbors got on our nerves; we weren't well-suited as housemates! :lol: )

I completely agree about the sad moodlet from acquaintances' deaths. Reminds me of culling, where, in spite of hearting my families and marking them as played, the game culls MY sims' relationships instead of some random townie they just met. Grrrrrr!

Not a programmer, but I can't help believing that they've programmed the game to weight random npcs' relationships higher than our own, when our own sims' relationships aren't maxed out. :/

my thing is if the fire is out ok cool no need to be tense all two to three days just because a little fire broke out they extinguished it now if someone broke into your house then I get the tense moodlet for a couple of days.

I agree. I tend to find that as my sim reach elders, they get a call at least every day. They just spend the whole of their last life stage sad.

the phone call mechanic isn't a problem for me. the moodlets are what need some reworking, in my opinion
