Winter Designer Showdown
As you walk to work through the newly fallen snow, you wonder if your new office manager will already be there, or if you will have to turn the heating on yourself. You enter a ready warmed office, smelling of spiced tea and warming mince pies. You think yourself, "Yep, right choice." After weeks of searching, the right person for the job was literally deposited on your doorstep. You met Karl Hedges when you both surprised his sister Julia with her new home. While Julia was off exploring every nook and cranny, you took Karl to one side and explained your situation, remembering that he was looking for a personal assistant role after his husband was laid off. He was very low key and accepted the job on the spot.

Karl stands from behind his desk, all 6' 4" of him, his blonde hair is perfectly styled, and those piercing grey eyes meet yours as he offers to take your coat. The foyer is gleaming, all those wayward portfolios have disappeared from view and you think, if he's accomplished all this over the weekend before Christmas, you truly have picked a winner.

You make your way back to your office, fully expecting him to have cleaned up in there, and as you wonder where he will have placed that all important folder you need this morning, but no, it still looks like your office, all your documents, as far as you can see, are where you left them on Friday night. But, it feels tidier. The blinds have been opened and the glorious winter sun almost blinds you as you step in.

You are surprised when his gravelly voice comes from behind you, you thought he had settled himself back down at his desk.

"I have done what I can, but I didn't want you having to search for documents, photo's or portfolio's you needed."

"Thank you Karl, the place looks fantastic, you didn't have to do all this over the weekend, I wasn't expecting it."

"It was no problem, Grant and the kids were so excited when I told them I had a job, that they offered to come in and help. We made an adventure out of it."

"Thank you so much Karl, this really was above and beyond."

"There is fruit tea and a mince pie on your desk, Grant insisted on baking for you."

"Yes, a very, very, very good choice." The number of very's in your head is getting a bit silly now.

"So what do we have planned this week?" He asks.

"I thought our pool of designers could have a bit of fun this time around, we don't have any pressing contracts right now, so we are going to host a Designer Showdown. They will have four objects from which to chose to build a theme around, and a generous budget to build a 3 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom home on the banks of the river in Willow Creek.

Brief:
A 3 bedroom, 3.5 Bathroom home on Potters Splay a 30x20 lot on the riverbank in Willow Creek

Rules and details:
You can layout the interior however you like.
You cannot change the size or location of foundations, or exterior walls.
Yes, all exterior walls and foundation must remain the same.
You can, however, add walls to the interior and change the roofing;
You can replace doors, windows, and stairs, but they have to remain in the same position (meaning if it's a 2 tile window, you have to replace it with a 2 tile window or 2 single tile windows, etc.) Doors CAN be replaced with an arch of the same size if desired.
You can add structural elements for landscaping purposes, such as a greenhouse, gazebo, or a carport (no garages), but they cannot be attached to the main house.
You CAN change, add or delete any fencing, but you may not use fencing inside the home.
You CAN change the wall and floor treatments to any of your choosing.
The budget for this build is $200,000
The theme is completely up to you. It does not have to be Winter themed (although you must include a Christmas tree somewhere in your home) - your house should reflect your inspirational object.
You do not need any game packs to compete. The house was built with only base game elements.

ENTRY DETAILS: Since the title is winter designer showdown I went with the “The Don't Break Your Back-pack” as my item of inspiration. I used the red color as the focal point using the other colors found in the back pack: blue snowflakes from the blue book, yellow/tan color master bedroom for the workbook in the back pack, and all holiday items have colors found on the back pack.
By the way I don’t know where Potters Splay was at, I change all the names of my lots a long time ago, so I picked a lot that looked close to the pictures and was a 30x20.

ENTRY DETAILS: Casa Picante was inspired by the spice rack, and the first thing that came into my mind was Southeast Asia because of the spices. This house is an example of Filipino colonial architecture, and the colors of spices are seen throughout the whole house. Since the house is meant to be facing the river, I had to make the curb view as appealing as possible, which explains the great deal of detail and landscaping.

The Hawthorne Project - Disaster Plan
You are rudely awakened by the sound of your private cell phone ringing, your home phone ringing and if you are not very much mistaken there seems to be someone knocking on your front door. You turn on the bedside light and blink as your eyes adjust to the new light levels. As you leave the snuggly warmth of your bed on this freezing January morning, you wonder what on earth could be going on. Shrugging on the welcome cosiness of your new cashmere dressing gown, a present from Santa Claus, you slowly make your way through your home to the front door, picking up a fire poker on your way, you feel incredibly nervous.

Standing on your front door is Karl Hedges, your new personal assistant, his blond hair is perfect and his suit immaculate, for a moment, you wonder what your own hair looks like but his piercing blue eyes look sad and you ask him what on earth the matter is.

Ignoring you, he rushes past you into your living room and turns on the TV. Flicking through the channels to you wonder why on earth he rushed all the way over to make you watch the latest disaster film. It’s not until you notice the banner scrolling across the screen that you realise it’s not a movie at all, but SimCopterNews. You grab the remote from Karl and turn the volume up.

“You join us just as the latest death toll has been released, 5 people have now died in the landslide that has engulfed most of Oasis Springs.”

The camera pans over the once idyllic vista of Oasis Springs, the place is barely recognisable. You think you can just make out parts of Acquisition Butte, those palm trees look like the ones that were out the front of Affluista Mansion, and the Commercial District has been completely levelled.

The news anchor is speaking again.

“As you can see most parts Oasis Springs have been completely engulfed by the mud and debris brought about by the worst landslide Simlandia has ever seen. I don’t know what the residents are going to do over this, the coldest part of the year.”

You pick up your cell from your dressing gown pocket and start dialling, before you can press the call button, you jump as it rings, fumbling with the phone you nearly drop it, Karl calmly takes the phone from you and answers.

“May I ask who is calling?”

He looks at you and mouths “It’s Ms Hawthorne.” That is spooky you think, as that is who you were about to call.

“Yes, we have been made aware of the situation is Oasis Springs.” A short pause.

“You wish to volunteer funds to set up a crisis shelter of sorts? That is really very kind of you.” Another pause.
He mutes the phone and hands it to you, I think you had better take the rest of this call.

“Ms Hawthorne, thank you for your kind generosity.”

“Nonsense, it’s my civic duty to help those who are less fortunate than myself, I thought I had made that perfectly clear to you.”

“Of course you.” You say.

“Now, this crisis shelter, it’s not going to be your usual rag tag bunch of buildings, I wish for you to build a village of sorts, I am going to donate the land of Magnolia Blossom Park in Willow Creek and Twin Oracle Point to the cause as well, so there is no need to worry about the cost of the lots. I want this to be a place where people can get back on their feet, a little like my legacy project. I believe that 4 homes on each lot should be satisfactory for now. I think we should have one 2 bedroom residence, two 3 bedroom residences and a 5 bedroom residence.

You have switched the phone to speaker and you can see Karl taking notes in the journal he takes everywhere.

“Now, as with my legacy project, each lot must contain an element of self sufficiency, it is up to you whether that is in the form of a communal vegetable garden to benefit the entire community, or smaller areas with the borders of each home. The same can be said of the other prerequisites of the lots, the computers, the book cases, the physical equipment, logic skill items, musical instruments and art supplies. They can be incorporated into the homes or integrated into communal areas.”

“Ms Hawthorne, this is a mammoth task for our builders, I’m not sure that we are going to be able to comply with your wishes.”

“Well, I should have thought that with the talent that I have seen so far with my legacy projects that you have the skills to pull something like this off, or maybe I was premature in giving you the contract in the first place. There are other architects and contractors out there you know.” You gulp, you have really enjoyed the two projects that Ms Hawthorne has sent your way so far and without whom, you wouldn’t have found your very capable new assistant.

“Of course, I am sure that my builders will rise to the occasion.”

“As for the budget, I am going to give you $1,000,000. This can be spent in any way you wish, you can prioritise the communal or the personal spaces. I want this to feel like a cohesive neighbourhood, with a main street down the middle m aybe, but of course that is up to you. The style of the builds is of course, as always up to your builders.”
“Wow!!” You think to yourself, but then your rational brain kicks in and you realise that 1 million simoleons isn’t going to got that far with 4 full builds and community areas.

“That is incredibly generous of you Ms Hawthorne, I will also donate $500,000 dollars to the cause as well. That way, we can be assured of building a lasting legacy for the town in which the community is erected.”

You can almost see and hear her approval through the phone line and you and Karl share a smile.

“Wonderful!! I think we should extend the usual build deadline though, don’t you?” She asks.

“Yes, I agree, I think that 4 weeks should just about get it done. Then the residents of Oasis Springs can make a fresh start and think about where they are all going to go from here.”

“Perfect. Well, good luck with everything.”

The phone goes dead before you are able to close the conversation properly.

Looking from the devastation on the TV to Karl, you say.

“Well, let’s get this show on the road.”

BRIEF

Using either Magnolia Blossom Park in Willow Creek or Twin Oracle Point in Newcrest, change the lot type to residential and build a 4 residential dwelling community.

- The 2 bedroom (1 full bathroom)
- The 3 bedroom (2 full bathrooms)
- The 5 bedroom (3 full bathrooms)

The style you for the dwellings must be cohesive throughout the lot. But the choice of architectural style is up to you. The lot must also be fully landscaped.

The community must have all basic skills provided for (except for rocket science), these can be individual in the 4 residential dwellings, or as part of a series of communal areas:
- Each community must include readily accessible computers, a vegetable garden, chess tables, a easels, musical instruments, and fitness equipment as well as book cases.

Your budget is 1.5 million simoleons, you do NOT need to add the cost of the lots to your total cost.

ENTRY DETAILS:
To get started I read the story to my 3 kids. I then asked my 11 year old son what style of building I should have, to which he answers the buildings should all be industrial style. He even went on to say I should have one building that looks like cargo crates. Meeting his idea I built all the buildings with an industrial style on the outside and even made the community center look like three cargo crates on top of each other. Then my 9 year old daughter said each house interior should be a different color and style. That way the Sims who would move in get to pick what style they want. Keeping to this I used more natural colors in House A, blues in House B, greens in House C, and reds in House D. Now of course my littlest 7 year old son wants to say something. He loves all the tiny houses I build for him to play with, so he asked that one house be a tiny house.
When it came to flowers I wanted something that fit with the backdrop of Twin Oracle Point, but also would make all the Sims from Oasis area feel more at home. Therefore, on the boardwalks I put all desert plants and everywhere else got plants you would find in Newcrest. Total this lot has 13 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms.

ENTRY DETAILS: I live in Alaska, so the lot is made to fit in where I live >.> They have a full garden, every skilling object minus rockets. One of our 3 bedroom families is a new vampire family although the teens are trying hard to live in the newer age and avoid their parents living in the "victorian" era.
Not my best build and I'm not to terribly happy with it. I wanted to do more but life caught up and I pooped out before I got the teen rooms done completely so eh I was going to scrap it but didn't because I said I would do it and I know I've been MIA on the forums for awhile

ENTRY DETAILS: I wanted to create a community filled with victorian homes that would match the backdrop of Newcrest. The requirement I gave myself was to create each home in a colorful palette in order to brighten up the disaster victims lives. I stretched that even further by creating each home's interior to match the exterior personality. In total the homes have 13 bedrooms (one of them is for a toddler) and 9 bathrooms. Every teen-adult skill is included with the lot (except the rocket and microscope).

ENTRY DETAILS: The look of the lot was inspired by traditional houses in the Faroe Islands and Iceland. Since I was already in the area I tried to give the interiors a Scandinavian feel too. I wanted to have a community area for the residents that was quite natural and unimposing. I also wanted a good bit of open space so that's why the Community Centre is underground.

ENTRY DETAILS: I chose the park in Willow Creek to build and therefore was inspired to make a row of four Victorian attached townhouses with a courtyard and community center in the rear. The slideshow for the exterior of the whole lot is here.
In order to furnish the townhouses, I need to envision that families that would be living there:
The 5-bedroom townhouse is for a family consisting of a couple with a teenage son and two twin girls (children). Living with them are the husband’s father (elder) and the father’s neighbor and lifelong friend (another elder male). The house is decorated in a traditional style with warm colors. The first 3-bedroom townhouse is for a family consisting of a couple with a toddler (girl) and a teenage son. The house is decorated in a traditional style with warm colors. The slideshow for this townhouse is here.
The second 3-bedroom townhouse is for a family consisting of an abstract expressionist artist (elder female), her daughter and her husband, and their teenage daughter. The house is decorated in a modern style inspired by the work of Mondrian. The slideshow for this townhouse is here.

The 2-bedroom townhouse is for a family consisting of a gay couple with a teenage daughter. The house is decorate in a modern style using black, white, gray and purple as the chief colors. The slideshow for this townhouse is here.

My chief regret is that the lot is too complicated to be useful in the game except perhaps for story tellers. **shrugs**

ENTRY DETAILS: Enter the cul-de-sac through the gates (which may be locked at night for security) to four suburban style houses, all differently designed but with matching exterior finishes. I created each house with different characters in mind. For example the two bed is for a small family with child and toddler (with not much money to spare), the five bed is for a large family (with lots of money), the three bed monochrome is for a small chic and stylish family with good taste and the three bed slightly eclectic one is for a homely family. Each house contains a piano, mirror, computer, cooker, fitness equipment and bar, the remainder skill objects, fishing pond, gardening pots, violin, guitar and chess, can be found in the communal areas

ZeroDoxy
One of the best parts of this job was how frequently you got to meet new, and interesting people. Your latest client, Mallory Abbot, is no exception.

A short young lady with a cheerful smile, accented by a lip ring, sits across from you. She bubbles with an excitement and enthusiasm that couldn’t help but charm you. Repeatedly she brushes her remarkably long hair, dark brown with two blonde streaks in the front, back over her shoulders.

“So, yeah. This is my first real home. I’ve always lived in apartments and I’m so looking forward to being able to stay in my own place for longer than a minute.” She said happily. “I’m new to the town and I’ve heard from a TON of people that you’re the person to see when it comes to starting out.”

You smile with pleasure, always delighted to hear that people are talking about your work. “I might have a little bit of experience with it.”

She giggles, “Oh jeez.”

“So what would you like in a home?” You inquire, clicking your pen.

“Well, I don’t have a big budget. But I’d really love to have 2 bedrooms. I have 3 cats, so I need room for them to roam. I have a few friends who might move in with me later, so I need space for the house to get bigger. I also like to cook so a decent kitchen would be great. I’m a streamer so I need an office.”

“A streamer?” you ask, a little confused. The pictures that pop up in your head are…odd to say the least.

“I live stream games on Twitch.tv under the name Zer0Doxy. I also make videos for Youtube. People come and watch me play and hangout in chat. Its how I pay my bills.” She explains with the patience of someone whose had to explain this a lot. Then proudly she states, “My chat is the best chat in the world. Anyway, I need a great office where I can stream and make videos. Here’s the complicated part: my haunted computer just finally fried itself. I need a new one to fit into the budget.”

“And what exactly is your budget?”

Real Talk: We’re doing something really unique for you guys this time around. Zer0Doxy is an actual live streamer who plays a lot of Sims, as well as other games. We’ve made arrangements with her to have the builds submitted for this challenge featured on one of her live streams! We will be sure to post when the live stream will be so that everyone can be there as she looks at your creations.

ENTRY DETAILS: (Be sure to tell us about your entry) I wanted something I hadn't really tried before, so this is a modern(ish) home with an over terrace that opens to the first floor, but also to the world outside (don't worry it's covered!) Also she said she had kitties, so I wanted to build a kitty wall in the living room for the cats to run up and down. if in the future the house needs to be expanded, it's easily done by taking out the back wall of the bottom bedroom and expanding out from there. Lots of room left on the lot to do it with. Hardest part was staying under the 20k.

ENTRY DETAILS: I've included a lot of notes on the pictures themselves but I went with a modern feel in the desert. Since it's a starter I wanted to give it a little bit of the "found objects" look to the decor, since that's often what you get when you first start out. I chose to do both the Sims 3 and the Sims 4 version of this challenge to see the two builds side by side. While I have not tried to exactly replicate each of them in decor they are the same floor plan and same concept. The pics show pictures taken from the same approximate angle from each build side by side for comparison. The computer in this build while inexpensive does give the area the "Inspired Trait" which I thought might be a plus for a Vlogger and I chose the Sunny Aspect/ Great Soil (for when you need to get outside)/ Home Studio traits. Some thoughtless sim has left a box of garbage on the edge of your lot- still one man's trash is another's treasure. Try going through it and maybe you'll start life in this starter just a little bit better than you thought!

Build’n’Share Challenge #63 Ley Lines

Ley Lines
As you sit in your office, combing through portfolios, you get the eerie feeling that someone is watching you. You turn and look out of the window, but you see nothing. Pressing the intercom, you ask Karl.

“Karl, when did you say my last appointment was?”

“His voice comes through the silence “I’m not 100% sure to be honest, all the email said was after dark.”

You shiver involuntarily.

“Thanks.” You say.

“Can I get you anything, before I head home?” He asks. Of course, you think it’s his anniversary, he asked to leave a little early.

“No, that’s fine. Can you lock up on your way out?”

“Of course. Have a nice evening.”

With that the office is silent once more.

Checking the window again, you see that twilight is approaching and you wonder if you will be able to see the new moon tonight.

Turning back to your desk and the mountain of invoices and paperwork on your desk, you hear a rustling outside the window, slowly, you turn your head back to the window. Still nothing.
“I think I must be going mad.” You say to yourself. “I can’t wait until the evenings draw out a little bit.”

Focusing once more on the paperwork that sits in front of you, you become engrossed in your work. The front reception buzzer goes and makes you jump.

Exiting your office into the foyer, you notice a very smartly dressed man and proceed to unlock the door.

“Thank you for accepting my meeting, I appreciate it.” He says kindly.

“It’s no problem, please come on back to my office, can I get you anything to drink. tea, coffee?”

“Thank you, but no, I’m not a fan of hot drinks.”

The way he smiles at you when he says it makes you feel a little uncomfortable, but his persona is so pleasant that you disregard it.

“I apologise that you had to wait for me to come and unlock the door, but my assistant had to leave the office early, and I don’t like leaving the door open. I tend to get so focused on my work that I worry that I might miss someone walk in off the street.”

“Of course, you can’t be too careful these days.” He says, again with that slightly knowing smile.
“Thank you for understanding.”

You gesture at the chairs to the side of your desk, he makes you feel comfortable enough that you don’t worry about sitting behind your desk.

“I understand that you moved to the area with your wife.”

“Yes, my beloved Isabella. We don’t have much, but we like this neighbourhood. We also didn’t realise the plot we bought was on a set of ley lines. We have been blessed with three sets of twins since we arrived.”

“Wow, three sets of twins, so there are eight of you?”

“That’s right. Isabella dreams of becoming mayor and most of our funds go to her campaign. So we have quite a tight budget considering what we need.”

“Well yes, I can’t imagine how expensive feeding all those mouths must be as well.”

“Yes, it can be quite draining.” There’s that darned smile again.

“Lincoln and Liberty our first son and daughter are six, and in elementary school, our second set of twins Salvador and Reece are three, both boys, still toddlers, are due to start next year. Our newest son and daughter Vernon and Sidney have only just turned two, so they are both still at home. Luckily both Isabella and I have the opportunity to work from home most days, so we can be there. But we do occasionally require a nanny.”

Wow, you think to yourself, this is going to be quite a build to fit everyone in.

“So, what exactly are you looking for me to build?”

“My love and I are not modern people, we like the modern amenities of course, but Isabella is almost from a different age. We are looking for a Victorian style home, we do not wish to live in a large open plan space. We will of course need at least four double bedrooms. The girls Liberty and Sidney will share, Lincoln has kindly said that he doesn’t mind sharing with his youngest brother Vernon, the second set of twins, Salvador and Reece are inseparable, as you can imagine! Isabella and I will also need a master bedroom. We also need a basement room, no furnishings, just somewhere we can pop the clutter of everyday life, it will need to be at least 6x5 though.”

A tiny basement, you think, pondering how much clutter a household with 6 children must accumulate.

“Oh, and just the one family bathroom should be enough, possibly with a half bathroom on the ground floor? Also, my wife is quite the gardener as well, so we will need some space set aside for that, preferably under some sort of cover, she is quite pale and burns so easily. Of course, I do not expect you to provide the plants with the budget we have set, just an area with pathways already laid out. And I would adore a fishing hole, I am quite the master fisherman.”

“And what is your budget for the home?”

“We are hoping that you can manage with $65,000.”

“I won’t lie, for what you are asking, it’s going to be quite a squeeze. But I’m sure we will manage.”

“Wonderful, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.”

You walk him back to the door, and shake his hand.

“I am so sorry, I hadn’t realise it was that cold in here.” You say as his hand is as cold as ice.

“It’s no problem. I rarely feel the cold.” As you close the door, you watch him head down the street, you look away to lock up and when you look back he is nowhere to be seen. You shiver again.

“Let’s see what we can come up with for Mr Shingo Okado.

For those of you who do not know how to place a fishing pond, you will need to enable cheats. To do this, you must press ‘ctrl’ ‘shift’ and ‘c’ at the same time, this will bring up a text box at the top of your screen. Into this text box you must then type ‘testingcheats on’ and press return once more. The box should then tell you that testing cheats have been enabled. Then you must type “bb.showhiddenobjects” and enter again. Then in the search box just above the building window type ‘fishing’ and press enter again, this will show you all the fishing holes available in the game.

Reece is clingy, Salvador is Wild, Vernon is Angelic and Sidney is Silly.

With classic architecture and high quality furnishings, neighbors will have no idea the Okados purchased this charming home on such a tight budget. 13 Ramblethorne Way boasts 4 bedrooms, including a spacious master bedroom and closet. Even the kids' rooms have a touch of classic sophistication. The garage has been equipped with ample gardening space. A small skylight lets filtered sunlight through for the plants, so that Mrs. Okado can flex her green thumb while hiding from the sun. Nearly every room in this home can easily be expanded when Mrs. Okado gets that big promotion.

ENTRY DETAILS: This is the first time trying to make this style home. I am very under budget, but I didn't realize it. I've kept the decorating
simple for two reasons:
1. I imagine the husband and wife liking the simple life without too much clutter so I tried to emulate that.
2. I don't feel there are many things that are victorian themed or give the feel of it to me in terms of tinier
decorations or painting, etc. I didn't want to end up repeating similar items over and over again or just bulking up on furniture for the sake of taking up space.
I tried to make it a smaller house while still keeping some rooms wide and open so as not to appear to tight of a squeeze, also including the patios to give the place more of a spacial feel.
bb.moveobjects was used in creating this build so I reccomend turning it on just in case that affects how you see it if you download it.
Master bedroom, family bathroom and sitting room/living room are upstairs.
Downstairs is the kitchen and 3 of the children's bedrooms as well as the ½ bathroom under the stairs.
The basement is also included in the build. Empty as requested.
The Wife's gardening area is on the left side of the house under a gazebo covered
in green wildlife to shade her from the harsh sun.

ENTRY DETAILS: This beautiful structure was commissioned by a family looking for the comfort and traditions of the past but outfit with the modern amenities of today. We have tried to blend these desires into a family home for a large growing family with an eclectic mix of furnishings and mementos. A wealth of activities are available to keep the busy minds and busy hands of six young children and two young at heart adults from ever growing bored. From games of chess to games of Don't Wake the Llama. art, fishing, gardening, music and a host of other pursuits this home is perfect for this family.
Downstairs is a call to a more formal, gracious era with a dining room, living and a small parlor for welcoming guests set apart from one another in privacy. There's an enclosed gardening porch off the living room that leads outside to covered beds for planting. The kitchen is well outfitted with a space designed to act as a mud room and a butler's pantry leading to the dining room for storing all the china that somehow accumulates over the years.
We consulted each of the children in the decor of their rooms and found the three year old twins just precious. They declined the use of curtains with one saying "Let the world see!" and the other following with "Yeah let the world see the faces of it's doom!" Then they hissed menacingly and went back to playing with skulls- ADORBS! The other children were more quiet, an artist, a scientist, a musician and a little lady dreaming of the heights she hopes to one day reach.
Mom and Dad have a private retreat with plenty of storage, a small artist studio and a bath of their own! Done in dark soothing tones that speak to the calming hours of the night that can be spent in quiet reflection upstairs or gathered together in the living room reading, watching tv or using the computer.
Outside is fully landscaped with mature plantings.

“What a refreshing change,” you murmur to yourself as you walk up the path to the recently completed offices of the Ryunoten's. Usually your clients come to you, but since scheduling was tight, you were visiting them. Plus it was a chance to see your handiwork in action, so to speak.

You step inside, scanning the premises. With approval, you note how much better it looks with someone sitting in the waiting room and a receptionist at the desk. It projects exactly what you want it to, bringing a sense of pride and happiness to you.

“You look very pleased,” says a familiar male voice from behind you. Michael Ryunoten, Prince Charming in a lawyer's suit, smiles at you. “Sorry I wasn’t here when you got in. Dream is at the courthouse and left her wallet behind. I hope you weren’t waiting long.”

“I just got here myself,” you assure him.

“Well come on back.”

“Mr. Ryunoten? Mrs Jenkins is here to review her case with you.” The receptionist says as the pair of you approach.

Mike aims a smile at the lady, “You’re a bit early Mrs. Jenkins. I’ll be with you in just a few minutes.” Then ushers you back to his office. “Dream would be here with us if she could, but..”

You smile, remembering reading about some of her cases in the news already. “Court comes first in this case. So what can I do for you?”

“Well, we’re ready to get out of Jesus’s house. Business is good enough that we feel confident in asking you to build our home for us.” He pulls out a notepad. “We’ve got a budget of 100k to offer and would like it to be near to Jesus’s house if possible. He’s got a beautiful location and we’d like to share it or have something equally lovely.”

“That’s easily accomplished. I know of several lots for sale that have great views.”

“We’d need a decent size, since we want the house to be ready for our family to grow. We want to have children.”

“Define decent size.” you say, clicking your pen for note taking.

“Well, 4 bedrooms, 3 or 4 bathrooms. Large enough yard for a pool and room for the kids to run. The bedroom suite needs to be very much a refuge for us. Dream…needs a lot of sleep. If you could include a small workout area/ or room that would be great. I think nicely decorated and comfortable goes without saying, given how perfectly you decorated our office. My lovely wife has specifically requested soft soothing colors throughout. I’m fine with that as long as it doesn’t look like a powder puff.”

You laugh, nodding. “Don’t worry Mike. I wont make it overly girly. Anything else?”

“I think that covers it….Oh, if it helps, we both like the low country house style.”

“No problem.” You check your notes, making sure you didn’t miss anything. “I think we covered everything then. I’ll get out of your way and let you get to Mrs. Jenkins.”

Michaels smiles, walking you to the door. “Oh, Jesus and I have a friend named Reggie. He’s thinking about relocating from the city to here with his girlfriend.”

“Well, when they get here, I’ll be sure to be available for them.” You shake hands and head out, already mentally rummaging through the list of available lots.

The Hawthorne Project Part 3
Well, this is surely easier than the last time I received an email from The Hawthorne Project. You cast your mind back to when Rose had left and you hadn’t met the man who had recommended his sister as the next recipient of the foundation and gone on to take over from the irreplaceable Rose.

Hello there my dear,

I hope that this email finds you well. I just wanted to thank you again for your help with the Disaster Plan that we managed to action for those poor unfortunate souls in Oasis Springs. I have enclosed the application form for the next recipient. The poor little thing is really deserving of our help.

“Well, I wasn’t expecting a personal email from the lady herself.” You think to yourself as you open up the attached file. You find yourself looking at a photo of a young man, with his belongings on a street corner, it looks like a tourist snap that was taken at just the right spot to capture the moment completely. He looks so bereft and dejected, that you wonder how on earth he had the wherewithal to contact The Hawthorne Project.

You continue to scan the documents.

“Hi, I am writing to you, because I met this young man last week. He is a former soldier who has recently been made homeless. I noticed the regiment badge on his backpack as we were waiting for a bus and being a military man myself we got chatting. It turns out he suffers with PTSD, his wife left him and took the house and his children, he has a son and a daughter, who are both in elementary school. He has been living rough for a couple of months, he likes to ride the buses and people watch. I believe that he has been dealt a tough hand in life and that it’s up to those more fortunate to help out if and when they can. I saw the leaflet for The Hawthorne Project flier and immediately thought of Dave, so that’s why I am applying. Thank you for taking the time to read my application.”

You find that there is a lump in your throat as you finish reading the form. Dave is certainly in need of some help. You head out into the lobby to grab a tissue from Karl’s desk.

“I’m guessing you read the latest Hawthorne application?” You ask him.

“I did, and all I can say is I think Ms Hawthorne should be up for a Sainthood.” is his reply.

“I think you might be right.” But you can’t help thinking of all the other unfortunates who must be in similar or even worse conditions than Dave Potter and you have to believe that the world is going to change for the better one day.

Heading back into your office, you sit at your desk and notice a post script to Ms Hawthorne’s email.

As Mr Potter has children, I would think that it would be relevant to allow him the funding as per a Sim with children living with them full time. My hope is that Mr Potter be able to rehabilitated back into a functioning member of society with access to his two children. Therefore, the budget for this project should be $40,000 as per the guidelines for a home for three Sims.

The Brief:

A 3 bedroom home, you have free reign on how the house is built, landscaped, laid out etc.

Must include: a computer, a vegetable garden, a chess table, an easel, at least one musical instrument, at least one piece of fitness equipment (must be an item that improves the fitness skill) and a bookcase.

The budget must not exceed 40,000.

Sim Challenge:

Create Dave Potter, he is an active but gloomy. His final trait and aspiration are of course up to you. You should show Dave interacting with his new environment.

Room Challenge:

Create a gym for Dave, your budget for this room is 7,500. It should be no larger than 20 squares in total, this does not need to be in a square.

This house Windenburg home is modern and has all the required eliments. Situated on an Island and near the water's edge should be a good and calming neighborhood for this PTSD sufferer. After taking care of the challenge demands I started decorating in earnest with my calculator. I managed some nice decor with carefully chosen furnishings, good guality appliances (if not best). The home has a "Homey, Sunny Aspect" with "Gnomes"; I wanted to give Dave Potter the best possible chance of a good life and considered his children in the choices so he can do things with them. I came in $56 over budget forcing me to throw out things, it is the clutter that cost the most! I thought the flowers were a nice finish. The house has a simple and easy layout, with an eat-in kitchen which is the only dining area. All in, I think it a simply attractive home, with a fairly open floor plan. The house was designed for active use so I have now uploaded to the gallery and will let Dave into his new home to test his reactions.

ENTRY DETAILS: Dave Potter is creative, in spite of his general gloominess. His aspiration is to create a comfortable and pleasant home for the children if and when they can come to his home. Dave loves to read and play chess. He is trying to get the hang of basket ball, he keeps returning to the hoop again and again. Dave continues to keep fit with regular exercise and jogging. He is having some problems creating good relationships but he is learning. I have great hope for Dave in overcoming his problems with PTSD because he does not seem to be a quitter. Dave is muscular from his time in military but since leaving the armed forces has developed a very slight paunch. He remains a fit and healthy, generally.

ENTRY DETAILS: Since Dave suffers from PTSD, I wanted his house to be a safe haven where he could feel both at home and inspired. Earthly colors on the outside combined with stone will help to feel him grounded. A modern structure with clean lines and an open concept will make the house look bigger than it actually is. The blue and beige color scheme is supposed to be calming and relaxing.
The kids share a bathroom, which works as a guest bath as well. Daves small mastersuite is his retreat.
After all I tried to safe some money and give him a small pool - a cool refreshment in the hot desert sun and a great place to hang out with his kids! For serving his country he really deserves that little piece of luxury.

ENTRY DETAILS: I decided a craftsman style home would suit David. Craftsman homes have strong design elements and are no nonsense--perfect for a strong and sensible man who is ready to take control of his life. The open floor plan makes it easy to keep an eye on the kids. Decorated in calming blue with bright pops of orange--playing on the tone of the natural wood furniture--Dave sees a bit of the uplifting shade in each of the areas of the main living space. The house flows easily from inside to outside with the large French doors and the bigger backyard with shade trees is a great play space. David liked the patio so much he decided to put his easel out back for some en plein air painting. He might even use his garden for painting inspiration when the plants are ready for harvest. David's room is masculine without being dark and he really appreciates there is space for his punching bag--working out helps him with stress--and the private bath with shower. The rooms for his daughter and son really capture their personalities. The daughter, Darla, is very girly and loves animals! Ricky's room is all about the sky--he wants to be an astronaut.

ENTRY DETAILS: Dave's clothes are a little raggedy and he feels he is ready for a haircut--he got used to keeping it short in the military but he hasn't been able to afford one in a while. Even though he's prone to bouts of sadness, Dave is hopeful his children will benefit from his new beginning and be even more successful. And now that he is going to be back on his feet soon, he's optimistic he'll find a new partner who will become good friends with his kids (he's a romantic--it's the trait that won over his ex-wife, Justine, even though she's not naturally one for marriage). Dave and Justine get along well. She's really impressed with his new place and even helps out with the kids sometimes while David gets used to taking care of the family again.

Build’n’Share Challenge #66 - Somewhere

Somewhere
Karl brings you a cup of herbal tea and reminds you that your new clients will be arriving in 15 minutes. You quickly review the client folder: Rothko Close, abstract expressionist painter; and his wife, Mitsuko Uchida, renowned concert pianist. You know that they are moving from an apartment in San Myshuno but that’s about it!

When Karl ushers them in, you try to hide your surprise. They are clearly an older couple, but the folder mentioned two toddler girls as a reason for the move from the big city. Rothko takes the lead in explaining their needs and desires.

“We have already purchased options on two properties: Mid-Nowhere on Windenburg Island and Vista Quarry in Oasis Springs. The latter lot is a little bigger, but we love the isolation of the Island. I will let your design decide which would be more suitable.”

“So what are we looking at in terms of bedrooms and so on?” you ask.

“We need three bedrooms, for sure: a master bedroom, one bedroom for the toddlers, and a third for an au pair. We haven’t hired anyone yet; we’re still interviewing.

“We’ll also need two full bathrooms—one ensuite to the master bedroom—and another half bathroom would be nice. We will definitely need space for Mitsuko's grand piano and space for my easel,” he continues.

“Any particular style in mind?” you ask.

“We want a sleek, minimal ultramodern look. Basically, white, maybe a little black, and of course we love the colors of natural materials. But we want our artwork to really stand out. Do you know what I mean?”

You nod.

He continues, “And we abhor clutter! Do you know what I mean? Every object, every piece of furniture should have a purpose, should be meaningful. We want the house to be a work of art! Inside and out. Oh, and we’d like some sort of water feature as part of the landscape.”

“Um, you have two little girls, yes?”

Mitsuko perks up and answers, “Yes, Kichi and Akiko.” She smiles warmly.

That sparks a concern of Rothko, “But we don’t want their room to look childish. It needs to be as sophisticated as the rest of the house. Did I mention that LivingSims magazine is doing a feature on us? They are coming next month to interview us. We’d like to be in our new home by then. Is that possible?”

You assure them that it is quite doable, and then you all settle on the budget. As they are leaving, you say to Mitsuko, “I have enjoyed hearing you play at the recital hall in Willow Creek.” She gives you a shy smile and a small, formal bow, and the couple leaves. You call Karl back into your office.

“Karl, will you put together a portfolio of ultramodern interiors for me?” He nods and exits to get started, while you start sketching a house design that will look like a work of art!

ENTRY DETAILS: I stuck with the black and white. I was afraid that adding natural tones would make it too busy. It's very bright with lots of windows and there are two potty chairs, a tablet and some toys on the shelves to make it not too adult. I chose the bubbly wallpaper and crazy light fixture to add at least some fun to the room.

Footprints In The Sand
“Karl, has my 10 o’clock arrived yet?” You ask through the intercom.

His gravelly voice comes back through the speaker. “No, not yet, I guess they are running late.”

“Hmm.” You think to yourself, “I wonder where they are?”

It’s not like this client to be late. You have known Kaye for a while now, having built their original home, a home for her husband’s parents and an extension to the home you created when she found out she was expecting twins. You haven’t seen the Johnson’s since Christmas and you chide yourself for not keeping in touch, you had become a feature at Sunday lunches, school plays and the such like, they even asked you to be “odd-parent” to one of the twins. But life has been hectic recently and also, since you found out that Kieran was the illegitimate heir to the Hawthorne Legacy you have found it very difficult to spend time with them and not spill the beans.

You step away from your desk and head into the reception just in time to see a harassed Kaye struggling up the steps with the twins in tow. Your mind goes back to the first time you met and you helped her up the steps with Kaiden’s buggy. He was so small back then, you just can't believe he’s well on his way to becoming a senior at school.

Enveloping you in a hug, her Chanel perfume wafts around you. Karl busies himself entertaining the twins so you head back through to the your office to talk business giving him a grateful look as you go.

“Oh my gosh, what a morning.” She says before you can even offer her a drink.

“Kieran sends his apologies, something came up at the lab and he just couldn’t get away, and the twins had a doctors appointment this morning, he was supposed to help out there, but you know Kieran, once he gets his head in his work.” She is smiles as she speaks, and the smile reaches her very green eyes, so you know not to worry too much about the state of their relationship.

“Now how are you?” She asks, those piercing green eyes boring into yours.

“It feels like we haven’t seen you in ages, Christmas, if I remember correctly. Kaiden is always asking after you, he’s nearly finished his bug collection, boy, do I hope he grows out of that one soon. I found one of his little critters out of its cage the other afternoon, boy does that child make a mess.”

“I’m good, really good. I’m sorry I haven’t been in touch more, but things have been so hectic here recently, it feels like I’m never even really at my own home!”

“Well, OK, but you must put the twins Easter play in your diary, they are both playing chickens!”

You smile, you can see how proud she is of the munchkins that are currently laughing hysterically next door.

“So, what can I do for you?” You ask, getting back to business.

“We would like a holiday home. We have an inkling of what we are considering, but it needs fleshing out.”

“That’s where I come in?” You ask with a smile.

“Exactly! We heard that you did a special commission not so long ago, with just a footprint of a building. That’s what we have. We have no idea as to what style etc we want to go with, but you know us so well…” She trails off.

“OK, let’s see what you have.”

She pulls a piece of folded paper from her purse, and shows you the footprint. It is fairly square, but with a couple of small oddities, perfect for this family.

“Ok, I have a couple of ideas. What needs to be inside?”

“Well, the usual. 3 bedrooms, one for Kieran and I, one for Kaiden and one for the twins. At least 1 and a half baths. A decently specced kitchen and a fairly large dining area, somewhere to sit and read and a space for a games table, you know the usual holiday accoutrements. We want to have some outdoor spaces as well, a play area for the children and somewhere that Kieran and I can relax after they’ve gone to bed. Oh, and can you make sure that there are no interruptions from the outside world, I don’t want Kaiden with his eyes glued to the TV or Kieran constantly checking his email.”

“I’m sure I can manage all that. What’s my budget this time around?”

“Well, we were hoping you could do it for $125,000.”

“That will be plenty I’m sure. Oh, where is this holiday home to be located?!”

“Oh my goodness, of course, well, we bought a lot over in Oasis Springs before the landslide and it looks like things are getting back to normal out there, the lot’s name is Slipshod Mesquite, it’s on the edge of town.”

“I know it, it’s where Johnny Zest used to live.”

“Yes, that’s the one. Now I’d better go and rescue my munchkins from your new assistant, it sounds like they are having way too much fun!”

“Yes, but hearing them laugh like that is gorgeous,”

“It’s better than the cries I get most of the time, that’s for sure!!”

She leaves the office and you can hear her giving the details of the Easter play to Karl. He assures her that he will put it in your diary and that you really have been busy lately. He always looks out for you, but you still miss Rose.

“Mustn’t grumble.” You say to yourself and you starting googling for design inspiration.

Build-n-Share Challenge #68 - Pastel Equinox Designer Showdown

Challenge Deadline: Wednesday 10th April

So the equinox has passed (vernal or autumnal depending on where you live), the atmospheric light is changing slowly and it’s time for another designer showdown!

Brief: Renovate THIS SHELL into a house with at least 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Feature in some way one of the pastel colors found on the example wall at the front of the lot (this wall can, of course, be eliminated in your final design). The color does not necessarily have to be on a wall or the same wall texture. The color should be pastel and as close to the examples as the game permits (especially for furniture and objects). This does not have to be the only color you use—it just needs to be featured in some way.

WHAT CAN AND CANNOT BE CHANGED:

Walls:
Exterior walls cannot be eliminated or added on to with other exterior walls.
The wall height may be changed.
Foundations may be added to the walls.
The footprint of the house may be moved to any place on the 40 x 20 lot that the game will allow. (The house must be built on the Sandy Run lot in Newcrest.) It may be rotated 180°, if you wish. (Rotating 90° won’t fit on the lot.)

Windows and Doors:
Every wall panel that currently has a window or door must continue to have a window or door, but a two-panel window (or door) may be substituted for two one-panel windows (or doors) that are on adjacent panels or vice versa. Same goes for three windows adjacent to each other.
Windows or doors may not be added to wall panels that do not currently have them.
Any style window or door may be used
Doors may be substituted for windows and vice versa as long as they occupy the same space.
Window height can be adjusted up or down as the game allows.

Roofing:
Any style or configuration of roofing or no roofing at all is allowed.

Porches and Exterior Balconies:
Porches and exterior balconies are allowed as long as new exterior walls are not used to create them. You may attach an extra foundation to the house for this purpose. Fencing, columns and half-walls may be used.

Architecture:
Any style you want
Other structures (garages, pool houses, etc.) may be placed on the lot (using exterior walls) as long as they are not attached to the main house.
Extra stories above may not be added, but one basement level may be added.

Interior Design:
The interior space can be divided with walls, fencing and half walls, however you want.
Staircase(s) must be added. (Staircases may also be added to the exterior of the house as long as new exterior walls are not created.)
Interior flooring may be eliminated as desired: for sunken rooms on the ground floor (with foundation) and/or on the upper floor to create areas open to the ground floor.
Keep in mind the featured pastel color in your interior design. Otherwise, you have free reign.

ENTRY DETAILS: This may not be a winner but I did have a lot of fun with it. A real artist's studio occupies the second floor.(At least it is close to my dream studio!) A lot of the living is outside and on the roof top deck. I relied heavily on the blue pastel on walls, furnishings and even a lot of the decorations. I am sure my landscaping has improved this round! (At least I like it.) Hobbies for 4 people include camera, easel, violin, and a guitar for everybody. Even the sculptures on the work table are workable and The "Hansons" seem to love changing them. A very tidy crew, they keep putting much of the kitchen clutter in the dishwasher: cups, drink mix etc.(All comes back on fresh download!) The front yard is just pretty but the back yard is a luxurious place to relax and BBQ in beautiful surroundings. Trees provide nice shade over the benches. Every reasonable space was planted and good soil applied! Athletic equipment is a punching bag and a basketball hoop so they can stay fit and healthy as a group activity.The main space is the art studio that includes a models changing screen, a posing pedestal with a seat and two sources of good artificial light over and above the ceiling light. (Above all, an artist needs great lighting!) As tends to be the case with many artists, wine is on the scene. Best of all the Hanson's really enjoy all the facilities! A good house for Blues fans, pastel blues are everywhere.

ENTRY DETAILS: This is a wonderfully, cute, and charming traditional home with a semi-detached single car garage that has access to a basement with loads of storage. It includes 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and a powder room upstairs. Downstairs is a formal entertainment room, a study, a tv room, a dining room, and a kitchen. Outside the kitchen is a covered patio that leads to a small garden with a wedding arch and a pool. The Master Bedroom has its own large, partially covered balcony that sports a hot tube, a small table, and a yoga area. This home is perfect for a small family and can be extended if you need more space. This home has Good Schools, Natural Light, and Penny Pixies. It even features 3 of the pixies that have been seen in this home before by wonderful paintings of each.

ENTRY DETAILS: This was a fun challenge. I decided on traditional because I really wanted to draw attention to the recessed entrance with a gable and have a lovely covered porch. And my two most recent builds have been modern so time to change it up! I've never participated in a challenge to feature a certain color so I featured a couple of colors downstairs (yellow outdoors and yellow and blue) and a couple more colors upstairs (a pink bedroom and a light orange bedroom). Thanks to @StSciurus for the interesting shell! I had the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and work my little grey cells. In the end (ahem--won't say how long /that/ took), I was happy with the flow of the floor plan.

ENTRY DETAILS: I wanted to do something different- so I went with the traditional floorplan Astylings of an ancient Roman villa but designed for a more modern empire. I used the pastel sun to represent the rising sun that the owner of this home feels their empire to be experiencing but I also leaned heavily on deeper orange throughout the decor to represent the setting sun as most Empires are already in decline when they perceive themselves to be at their height. In traditional Roman villas doorways were often just covered with curtains rather than true doors and that is the tact I have taken here as well- so yes, the curtain hung doorways are on purpose, lol. The fourth bedroom in this build is for a live in servant and is in the basement attached to the kitchen- it has an ensuite bath. There are more notes with the pictures on Facebook.

Build-n-Share Challenge #69 - Mr Boddy's Mansion

You stare at your current client in confusion.

"I'm sorry. I must have misheard you. The person who wants me to build them a house is...deceased?"

Michael Ryunoten, attorney and happy client, nods a bit ruefully.

"I know this seems a little odd. And normally, its not a case I would handle. However Mr. Boddy was my very first client when I was starting out in law and I continued to handle his transactions even after I transitioned to business law. When we made out his will, he was very specific about what he wanted. And very insistent."

"Ok. And what exactly is it he wanted?" you inquire, feeling more than a little hesitant about this.

"He wants a mansion built to some unusual specifications." He pulls out a document. "Mr. Boddy demands that his mansion be at least 2 stories. The first floor is to contain an entrance hall, leading to a central foyer. Off of this central foyer he requires a kitchen, dining room, lounge, ballroom, conservatory, billiard room, library and study. All of these are to be separate rooms. There is to be a fireplace in each of these rooms except the kitchen and conservatory. The conservatory must contain a pool. It doesn't have to be big, it simply has to be there and useable. The kitchen must have low end appliances."

You lower your pen in astonishment and disappointment. "Michael that doesn't make any sense!" you protest. "Why low end appliances?"

He gives you a regretful smile, "I am not at liberty to explain. I'm truly sorry."

He clears his throat and resumes reading. "Upstairs there are to be no less than 6 bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms, to be outfitted accordingly. However there is to be only 1 single bed in 2 of the rooms."

Suspicious now, you ask "Really Mike. You're pulling my leg now. You cant be serious."

"I'm very serious." He hands you the pertinent section of the will so you can read it for yourself.

"Each bedroom is to be decorated in one of 6 colors: red, purple, blue, green, yellow, white."

"It doesn't mention here what kind of style he wants the house built in," you observe.

"He didn't care." Mike response, leaning back in his chair a little. "You have free reign. The total budget for the house is 300k."

"Nice." You say, dubiously. Such a strange list of requirements is more than a little...disconcerting.

"And of course there's your fee." Mike gives you a number that makes your jaw drop. The amount of money being offered would pretty much leave you debt free for the next five years, and pay for that trip to Al Simhara you've been wanting! Even if you are suspicious, its hard to say no to that kind of freedom.

"Well..."

Sim Challege

Play clue with Mr. Boddy's guests!

Mr. Boddy is a vengeful ghost out to get the sims he feels had a hand in his death. So he invites them to the newly built mansion. Rules are simple: First determine order of play. Miss Scarlett always goes first. Then roll a dice to determine who goes next. Once order of play is established, roll for the room Miss Scarlett is sent to. All doors are to be locked between dice rolls. No wandering sims. You have 8 sim hours to kill the sim in that room with the rooms method of death. Example: Miss Peacock gets sent to the observatory. You have 8 hours to drown her in the pool. After the 8 hours, you can let her out of the pool but she must stay in the observatory until her next turn.

After the 8 hours of potential death are up, each sim can amuse themselves or fill whatever needs are available to fill in that room. They may not leave the room till their next turn though. You may have turns concurrently. Example: Miss Peacock has to drown, so you lock her in the pool. You can then roll for the next sim and send them to the room of their potential death. You may have multiple sims in the same room, attempting to die the same way. If you wish to drag out the game play, you can insert a bonus round and give 1 sim the chance to recover their needs to keep them going longer.

The winner and inheritor of the estate is the last surviving Sim. They just have to live with the ghost of the murderous Mr. Boddy for the rest of their lives.

ENTRY DETAILS: This "Dangerous Domicile" is poorly equipped with the cheapest appliances that could be had and NO Smoke Detector or sprinkler system as are generally found in my builds. It has an otherwise fairly conservative appeal in an antiquated style typical of early country mansions. Sadly, a person might die if they were to jump or be tossed into the pool as there is no exit ladder. Worse, a hapless Sim might be thrown onto the conservatory roof and break through the plate glass ceiling/roof even though it is said to be strong enough to dance on. Worse, an evil Sim could smash the glass while an other is standing on it. I would be very careful about walking around out there! I would also keep clear of the kitchen and get to bed very early so as to claim one of the rooms with a bed (And remember to lock the door!) There is a grand piano in the Foyer to provide music to the ball room if the doors are left open during events. If the Ball gets to stuffy, there is an other set of doors to the deck where one might get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the aroma of the abundance of flowers. The Study is the smallest room in the house, cosy but very functional.The Library has a "Treasure Map" and two world globes should anyone be inspired to try and find said treasure! The dining room is a generous 16 seater and the lounge will accommodate a hapless 13 at full capacity. The Billiards Room is equipped with lovely towels to remove the chalk from one's hands between plays. It really is a nicely appointed Billiards Room with every thing required for pleasant play or just convivial conversations.There are no carpets in the Lounge, dining room, ball room and finally no carpet in Billiard room, SO visitors had better walk carefully lest they suffer a slip & fall accident on all that slippery flooring! Finally, if nothing else kills a Sim, there are poisons a plenty in the conservatory. Money made it is modest by mansion standards! If a Sim were careful, they would very much enjoy a stay on this luxurant lot.

ENTRY DETAILS: Monroe Manor is based on an English stately home which I thought would be the classic Cluedo/Clue style. I have focused on the build aspect only and have not killed any Sims in the making! I tried to keep the furnishings and decor sympathetic to the house style. Lots of chandeliers and wood panelling is used throughout. The billiard table is made with extensive use of MOO and is for decoration purposes only. Please note the typo on the gallery- there are 6 bathrooms not 5!

So much death! This manor is built for murder. It includes nine different ways to kill your Sims (fire, electrocution, drowning, overheating, food poisoning, exertion, cowplant, anger, playfulness).
How to use the rooms:
Lounge--death by fire or hysteria: Fireplace obviously! Playfulness: eat silly gummi pancakes, drink essence of playfulness, read comedy book, watch comedy channel, tell jokes, make silly faces, take bubble bath or play in the tub, view playful sculpture, view playful artwork and trophies (the emotional auras have all been enabled), boost playfulness with happiness from wind chimes, fire, artwork/decorations, comfort, and happiness potion. Keep the hysteria going for a decent amount of time (hours, in fact) so watch the length of time the mood boosts last. This is much harder to accomplish later in the game as the Sims become very sad at deaths in the household.
Dining room--death by fire or pufferfish nigiri: Fire--fireplace. Pufferfish nigiri: each of the seating areas has a serving of poorly made pufferfish nigiri.
Kitchen--death by electrocution, fire, or pufferfish nigiri: Dishwashers may break needing to be repaired. If the sim is singed or dazed from shock, they are more likely to die from electrocution if they repair something while it is in effect so I wait until two or more appliances are broken. Fire from cooking on a low quality stove. Grab a serving from the poor quality pufferfish nigiri.
Library--death by fire: Fireplace. Lighting fireworks indoors.
Study--death by fire, cardiac explosion: Fire from the fireplace and closely placed rug. Cardiac explosion from anger leading to being enraged. Boost anger by eating flaming spaghetti, looking at angry artwork (the emotional auras have all been enabled), drinking essence of anger, and avoiding fun activities in the room such as chess, video games, and happy fire. This is difficult! I had to remove as much high quality décor as possible so the Sim wouldn't have a happiness boost from well decorated. Having unfilled needs also helps. Sims with the hot-headed trait get a +1 boost to anger and this was necessary to cause death due to being enraged. I was able to get a non-hot-headed Sim enraged but it didn't last long enough to cause death. The angry boost from food is very short-lived. The ghost of Mr. Boddy is useful here as well because he can perform mean socials to boost anger.
Conservatory--death by drowning, cowplant: Drowning--Keep the Sim swimming in the pool until exhausted. It is more likely to work if the Sim isn't too tired before getting them to swim. It's easier to keep them from getting out of the pool because the option to swim can disappear when they are very uncomfortable. You may opt to place a fence around the pool be there can be no gate. Cowplant--Have the Sim eat the cake twice. This will probably have to wait until the Sim is in the conservatory a second time.
Ballroom--death by fire, exertion (for elder sims), overheating: Fire--fireplace with closely placed rug. Exertion for elders: workout and workout when tired. Overheating--relax in the sauna at least three times. To make this less guaranteed add in activities between relaxing.
Billiard room--death by fire, electrocution: Fire--fireplace and fire pit with closely placed rug. Electrocution--wait for many of the radios to be broken and try to repair them (it took forever for me to have a Sim die from electrocution so I didn't have it happen while playing but kept going just to make sure it could happen and it did--when repairing the 8th radio I think and making sure the handiness skill was still at 1 which involved a cheat at that point).
Playing tips:
* I like having Mr. Boddy as a ghost in the household. He can put out fires after they have served their purpose (with all of the doors locked, they can't be unlocked until the fire is out--I had Sims die of starvation waiting for the fire to extinguish itself and the fire may destroy the means of death in other rooms when allowed to spread without check. A ghostly Mr. Boddy can still go through locked doors and extinguish fires. He may, however, also extinguish the Sim on fire so he needs to be watched! ).
* Lock the doors from the kitchen to the dining room, from the conservatory to the outdoors, from the kitchen to the outdoors, and the front door.
* Since pufferfish nigiri is such an effective method of death, if the Sim survives, I move onto using other methods of death in those rooms.
* The lot traits of gremlins, cursed, and quake zone mean adverse events happen more frequently. In order to extend play, remove them! Cursed lot trait means fires happen more frequently. Gremlins and quake zone allow things to break more frequently which may cause electrocution if electronic objects are repaired with low handiness skill.
* Place the extra servings of silly gummi pancakes, flaming spaghetti, and pufferfish nigiri in the fridge to extend the time before they spoil (though the sims still eat them for a while when they are spoiled).
* A ghostly Mr. Boddy can be the cowplant keeper (may be necessary if the doors are locked) or have one of the other Sims feed the cowplant between turns. If the doors are locked and fire is spreading, the cowplant can die while waiting for the fire to burn out.

I chose to do a colonial style manor for Mr Boddy to invite all the people he wanted revenge on. Most of the appliances are the lowest level and they break easily. The pool can be easily fenced and there is a sauna and complaint in addition to the fireplaces, stoves, low level electrical and other ways of sims to die.
I played with all the 6 sims and tried to see who survived. The winner was Miss plum, who ended up dying soon after she was declared winner. So there are graves of all of them in front of the house. Mr Boddy ended up alone in the mansion and feeling lonely and miserable.

ENTRY DETAILS: Okay, I went a little left field and did a modern (almost post modern) penthouse mansion version for the Clue: Axiom Edition. Daniel Axiom is my maniacal, billionaire, political aspiring, real estate developer (any similarity between any Presidential figure in RL and my character are COMPLETELY coincidental ) in San Myshuno. Ever the plum for cash he has licensed his name to the board game. In my version of the game I see him as having faked his death, then he has had his lawyer lure everyone over for a reading of his will with the intention of killing them all instead.
The victims are:

His wife- JoAnna Axiom/ Mrs. White who is filing for divorce and threatening to take half his fortune with her.
His mistress- Tryme Guise/ Ms. Scarlett who has been blackmailing him by threatening to expose their affair during the divorce.
His daughter- Julie Axiom/ Mrs. plum who produced an illegitimate son and then turned over custody of the child to his political opponent and nemesis Brian Reginald.
His Rival-Brian Reginald/ Mr. Mustard- political rival on the verge of costing Daniel the election. He also has custody of Daniel's grandson whom he refuses to let Daniel Axiom visit.
His Ex-Butler- Leo Tyrell/ Professor Plum- Seduced his son while working in the household resulting in marriage between the two which has placed his former servant as his equal. Leo also holds the patent on a new type of robotic programming and refuses to turn it over to Axiom.
His Son- Zed Axiom/ Mr. Green- He married the staff- that's reason enough! In addition the son went "green" and turned in several of the family petrochemical factories for EPA violations resulting in fines in the tens of millions of Simoleans and potential criminal charges against Daniel.

I played through the game and the order of death was Col. Mustard by drowning in the Conservatory- Mrs. plum by Drowning in the Conservatory- Miss Scarlett by fire in the Kitchen- Mr. Green by fire in the Study- Professor Plum in the Billiard Room by starvation. In the end the place was half burned down, full of broken stuff and littered with giants piles of stinking garbage! This was a lot of fun. I played where the sims got to leave their room at the end of their turn and were sent randomly to another room their next turn. In between they had the run of the estate. I've killed sims before but usually just the Landgrabbes in order to get their money- they had it coming. The entire experience reminded me somewhat of the movie High Rise, except there's no pets yet- ha!
I wanted the overall effect to be fairly dark and heavy as well as very open. The formal rooms on the first floor can flow into one another much like a French castle. I had a candy bowl in the Billiard Room but I'm taking it out before eventual upload- in fact I took it out toward the end of the game. I thought the scare effect would be greater than it was and when the kitchen finally burned down, instead of sims starving to death they just ate candy all day- lol! The bar in the lounge doesn't help either but I'll keep that- ha! I was surprised there were no electrocutions- I had one sim repair three different electrical items while standing in water and not a single shock!. By the way- the kitchen is small. It allows the sink and dishwasher to break down and keep the floor wet- as well sims can't get ANY rest in the room, not even passing out because there is not room for them to complete the maneuver. In this way they will usually go right to bed after getting out of there instead of fulfilling another need like hunger which will kill them. YAY!
