!!Storytelling Input Needed!!

Sul sul, fellow simmers. I'm working on a bit of a storytelling project that follows the Hot Tea Legacy Challenge by @lxdice. Before I get too far into it, I wanted to get your input on a couple of aspects. So, without further ado, lets get into it.

First, when it comes to reading a sim story that follows a legacy, do you prefer short a sweet story telling or longer, more detailed chapters? My current chapter is 476 words thus far, and I still have some storytelling to do before moving onto chapter two. Is 500-1000 words two much?

Second, I want to tell a story with pictures. I want you to be able to capture the atmosphere and drama for this story. I want you to see the cute moments, the gritty moments. Now, I don't want to go too crazy and just make it ALL about the pictures. I merely want some form of visuals to go alone with the written story.

Would you prefer in-game screenshots like this:

Or would you enjoy a story told with screenshots edited by AI to look like realistic digital oil paintings? I'm not really artistically inclined and I thought that perhaps you guys might like seeing a story told with something other than the OG screenshots from gameplay.

Any input you guys can give me would be helpful. I'm excited about telling this story, but I want to make it as enjoyable as possible for the readers!

Thank you in advance!!

  • I agree with everyone here. In game pics are best. I also came here to say the same thing as gidget1234 about starting small, then expanding as you go.

My suggestion is to experiment with different writing styles too! I used to write strictly in 3rd person, or 3rd person omniscient, but writing from the POV of my sims has helped me immensely with immersion!

    Cheers and Happy Simming!

  • I like the in game screenshots.  I don't think I would have a preferred length.  Once I am immersed in a story, it doesn't matter to me how long it is 🙂

Thank you for your opinion! It helps me decide what I'm going to do in the way of storytelling. I truly appreciate it! I know I have a tendency to make my writing on the longer side, but I don't want to make it too heavy story wise that you all get bored or lose interest. ❤️

I second what BissenNess said. Definitely go with the in game screenshots. I love seeing how creative people can get with them. Editing to add, the screenshot you have looks great. It doesn't need a lot of editing. You can see that she's upset about something.

As for length, I think it depends on what kind of pacing you want your story to have. Sometimes short and sweet is best, but if you're in a creative mood, go for it and write more details in.

Thank you for the input. I truly appreciate it. I'll look into the editing for the original screenshots. As I mentioned, I'm not super good at editing pictures, but I'll look into it for sure. Thank you so, so much. ❤️

  • I'd definitely prefer the screenshots, maybe with some simple editing for centering and lighting, but not an AI rework. I don't know about length. I definitely wouldn't want meticulous detail. 500 is fine, I'm not sure about 1000.
