For example, in the spring time there is a tornado warning in Willow Creek, it starts hailing, then raining and the wind picks up, branches fall, lightning strikes, power goes out, and in the distance where the backdrop is you see a simulated tornado away from the town, so you dont have to worry about your house getting destroyed but you get the simulation of a tornado in the distance.
This would be awesome.
I would love to have natural disasters in game as long as they are very rare events. And I think it would be better if they were a distant thing and couldn't cause any death too. They wouldn't have to be violent or scary if they are presented in a cartoony way, with the sense that it clearly is a parody of real life, like everything in this game is.
What would be great is if they just were annoying events that occured unexpectedly and caused some damages to the houses.
In the sims 3 I loved the unexpected events that could occur when you purchased a house (bugs or rats infestations, broken plumbing objects, meteors, ghosts, and such).
I would like to see such things in the sims 4. The disasters could cause a power cut, flood the first floor a little, destroy a tree on the lot or an object that was outside. Personnally it wouldn't bother me at all if they even broke a wall or a part of the roof and you had to repair it. I like when the game gets challenging.
And of course, I agree with everyone on the fact that we should be able to turn them off.
