A Bit of Lite Housework...

I have noticed that quite a few folks have mentioned types of cleaning interactions we don't currently have in game. While I don't always agree (I find any and all suggestions to add ironing clothing in a word, boring) I had a few I thought might actually be useful and could offer some delightful consequences to not being attended to semi-regularly.

New Chores

  • Cleaning the Grill - Grills in real life need to be cleaned because build up can leave a nasty char on food that does not taste very nice. Also it can cause fire flares ups that can create a safety issue. I like the idea of a small amount of risk when using grills and being able to mitigate that with just a small amount of cleaning. I like us having consequences of inattention and lack of responsibility.
  • Cleaning out Fireplace Ashes - Fireplaces that aren't gas actually get a build up of ashes and need to be cleaned once in a while. Not only should cleaning and service help mitigate accidental fires but there can be some fun accidents involving a Sim getting covered in soot
  • Cleaning Bird Feeders & Bird Baths - With this suggestion I am implying a lot.
    • Bird do their business in the places the eat.
    • Animations of birds would need to be added to the Bird Bath.
    • Bird Baths would need to be emptied and filled as well as cleaned
  • Dusting the Grandfather Clock, Mantle Clock & Cuckoo Clock
    • I also want them able to be wound
    • ….And Chime/Cuckoo
    • ….And be able to choose a chime

Not Cleaning but still Useful/Realistic

  • Tuning Pianos, Violins & Guitars

  • You can clean the grill and make it sparkle like a diamond, a least in my game. I've had fires from outdoor cooking on grills set to close to the porch or fence... My adrenaline enthusiast always come to the rescue thankfully. 🙂

  • How about cleaning pet hair from beds and couches? I would really love if sims could change bedsheets and do their beds or not every morning.  Would also be nice if there was an option for cats to poop outside instead of the litter box.

  • I like the notion of being able to tune instruments. A piano often needs a professional to do that, and then it's incumbent on the owner to play the piano like mad, for about three months, depending on just how out of tune it is.

As for a guitar, this is an easy thing for the guitarist to do themselves. But, that would be a fun interaction. I've never played the violin, but I would imagine it also needs to be tuned before played, just as the guitar.

I have Bust the Dust and Laundry Day, to help add such chores since frequently I have a Homemaker in my games. (I dislike the term, Stay-at-home, simply because I didn't work very often outside of the home but wasn't always at home.)

As others have said, we are able to have our Sims clean the grill upon occasion. Yes, many of us use the grill-brush before we grill every single time, but it is the Sims, after all. We are called to suspend our disbelief. when playing to an extent.

You only need to vacuum every few days or so and it's not much of a chore if the house has just one floor.

That's good to know. The screen shots advertising the kit scare me still. ☺

  • I would love being able to tune instruments but I don't want to do more cleaning lol I do enough irl

Not at all. Just have one of those Roomba-type vacuums from Cats and Dogs, set them to auto and voila. I have one for each floor. Works like a champ. Then it's up to one of the teens to empty the trash, when needed.
