All adult Sims should start at Cooking Level 3

I think that all young adult or older Sims that the game creates should have at least level 3 cooking, and when creating in CAS a Sim at YA+ life stage, you should have the option to start with level 3 Cooking. That could be turned on universally in the settings for your game so you don’t have to mess with the CAS UI.

No real person gets to adulthood without learning how not to burn their house down while using a stove. It’s annoying to have to start every new Sim you create, or townie who joins your household, with grinding away making garden salads or reading a skill book long enough to not die immediately if they try to make some eggs for breakfast.

That is monotonous and boring but needed. It’s either that or do the cheats menu skill level setting, and that just feels like cheating, because it is cheating. It’s like hey, welcome to your new life, hope you love books and salad!

(It’s fine to not auto add this as teens age up, if you are playing a teen their parents should make sure they learn to cook. This is just for sims who start out as fully formed grownups.)
