What I always wanted and the closest was basically town centers in Sims 3, like the top village in Monte Vista, or the square in Midnight Hollow (I even cloned the center 64x64 rabbit hole to a build). So you can get that tight city center feel, but it worked in Sims 3 cause it was open world. For Sims 4 they'd need the largest lot (or maybe even make a new larger size), so we can basically make town squares with multiple venues (lot types), residential on one lot for a faux open world feel.
This would probably require it's own small world that is basically a neighbourhood with a large or oversized lot, and maybe several residential lots surrounding it. But imagine a cute cottage square like in CoL, but no rabbit holes, and all functional buildings. The pub, functional market stalls, shops, and residential apartments/homes—without ever having to leave the lot. Or an urban city center, a magic world with a Hogwarts or Diagon alley type feel, a carnival lot with rides, games and living trailers/caravans, etc.
So multi-functional lots would work perfect with this concept.
edit: I'd also love it if we could assign a room/door to a a rabbithole, so it can look like a Sim is going to work for non-active careers. I use to amass large city center lots as functional hangouts but put rabbitholes in the basements so Sims constantly were coming and going.
i know The Sims 3 isn't my style but the buildings looks so cool and agreed, we need bigger lot size than 64x64 to build something very big, like a big rich house or just in real life you visit the community lot while people lives above the community
I love your ideas with all of these too
A multi-functional lot is so needed for sure
