CAS Items Mis-Tagged

Hey Sims 4!

Now that you’ve announced that Sims 4 is going to be around for a long time, I want to help you address what I think is the biggest issue in the game –  for someone like me who owns all of the packs and kits. My biggest issue is how long it takes me to sort through the CAS and B/B catalogues because the color filters are inaccurate, mis-tagged, or missing major colors. I’m going to go through the entire catalogue for all packs and kits (and eventually basegame) and find the errors for you.

I also recommend adding more color tags for ambiguous colors, but not using their names, rather just a small color swatch in CAS and B/B filters. It’s really annoying when I want to find all the burgundy swatches, but sometimes they’re coded as purple, sometimes pink, and sometimes red. This happens the most with different purples and pinks.

Ambiguous colors that are sometimes mis-tagged or tagged on different basic colors across packs:

  1. Red-Orange (also known as scarlet, vermillion, coral, salmon and sometimes peach).
    2. Orange-Yellow (also known as gold, saffron, mango, or amber).
    3. Yellow-Green (also known as chartreuse or neon, sometimes olive).
    4. Green-Blue (also known as cyan, turquoise, teal, or aqua).
    5. Blue-Violet (also known as indigo or periwinkle).
    6. Violet-Pink (also known as magenta, fuchsia, lavender, or orchid).
    7. Pink-Red (also known as burgundy, wine, crimson, or maroon).

I do not expect you to add all of these ambiguous colors to your color filters. What I’m recommending is consistency (so all red-oranges are EITHER red OR orange moving forward, and all indigo are EITHER blue OR purple. However, I do strongly recommend new filters for aqua, burgundy, and magenta, because those are distinct enough.

This bug report Hughes-03 entry is about CAS Items in City Living.

Red Filter: In Female Adult Tops there is a violet tunic that shows a dark red bra under. Although there is some red in this item, it’s not dominant and the red filter should be removed.

Red Filter: In Female Adult Outfits, there are 2 items that are more red-orange. This includes a short dress with a dog on the shirt and a long dress with folds at the neckline and a split up the left leg. A decision should be made as to how to consisted filter red-orange items across all packs.

Red Filter: In Male Adult Outfits, there is a suit set that is red-violet with flowers on the right arm. I recommend adding this item to a new BURGUNDY filter.

Orange Filter: In Male Adult Bottoms there are plan pants that are much more red than orange. I recommend re-classifying this item as red.

Orange Filter: In Male Adult Outfits there is an outfit with an apron and an orange-yellow t-shirt. I recommend making a decision as to how to filter all orange-yellow items across all packs.

Orange Filter: In Female Child Outfits, there is a Chinese style short dress that is much more red than orange. I recommend re-classifying this item as red. Also, there is a tunic outfit that is more orange-yellow with black accents. I recommend making a decision as to how to filter all orange-yellow items across all packs.

Yellow Filters: In Male Adult Outfits, there is orange-yellow pants with a beige jacket over a pink shirt. I recommend making a decision as to how to filter all orange-yellow items across all packs.

Green Filter: In Female Adult Bottoms, there are snake skin pants that are more green-blue. I recommend adding a new AQUA filter to this item.

Green Filter: In Male Adult Bottoms, there are dark blue pants with black accents. I see no green at all and I recommend re-classifying this item as blue. In addition, the same snakeskin pants as in female adult bottoms is here and is more green-blue. I recommend adding this item to a new AQUA filter.

Green Filter: In Male Adult Outfits, there are 2 items that are more green-blue that I recommend adding to a new AQUA filter. One is an aqua jacket with tan pants, and the other is a dark aqua long tunic with beaded gold necklaces.

Blue Filter: In Male Adult tops, the same sweater that looks like peacock feathers and appeared under the green filter is appearing under the blue filter. Further evidence that a new AQUA filter would best articulate this color.

Blue Filter: In Female Child Tops, there is a sweater with yellow and purple accents that is more green-blue. I recommend adding a new AQUA filter to this item.

Blue Filter: In Male Child Tops, there is a sweater with yellow and purple accents that is more green-blue. I recommend adding a new AQUA filter to this item.

Blue Filter: In Female Adult Outfits, there is a long geometric dress that is green-blue. I recommend adding this item to a new AQUA filter. Also, there is a suit jacket with 5 buttons and lots of embroidery that is paired with leggings. This outfit is much more blue-violet. This is ok, as long as a decision is made as to how to consistently code blue-violet items across all packs.

Blue Filter: In Female Child Outfits there is a cat sweater with purple accents that is green-blue. I recommend adding a new AQUA filter to this item. Also, there is a tunic outfit that is more green-blue. I recommend adding a new AQUA filter to this item.

Purple Filter: In Female Child Outfits, there are shorts with overalls that are more violet-pink. I recommend adding a new MAGENTA filter to this item.

Pink Filter: In Female Adult Tops there is a dark red tunic. I recommend adding a new BURGUNDY filter to this item. There is also a long-sleeved crop top with a llama on the front – this item is more violet-pink and I recommend adding a new MAGENTA filter to this item.

Pink Filter: In Male Adult Tops there is a violet-pink sweater with gold accents. I recommend adding this item to a new MAGENTA filter.

Pink Filter: In Female Adult Outfits, there are 3 items that are more violet-pink. This includes two dresses with a similar long-sleeved, a symmetrical silhouette, one has paisleys and one has a gold geometric design, and also a short dress with a purple top with lime green accents and a large belt. All 3 of these items should be added to a new MAGENTA filter. Also, the raccon custome is more peach than pink and should be re-classified under the red or orange filters.

Pink Filter: In Female Child Outfits there is a cat sweater that is much more red-orange or coral. I recommend re-classifying this item as either red or orange (and keeping all red-orange items consistently classified across all packs).

Pink Filter: In Male Adult Outfit there is a long red jacket over a yellow sweater. I see no pink. I recommend re-classifying this item as red.

This is amazing. It would be fantastic to actually get better colour filters

  • This bug report Hughes-11 entry is about CAS Items in Cottage Living.

I have officially found over 500 errors in color filters in CAS.

Hi, I’m a tenured psychology professor who teaches on color perception – and my real name is Dr. Hughes (could be a fun pun with Hues as in colors). I find the biggest issue in the game for me, is that searching the CAS and BB catalogues takes forever, due to inefficient and mislabelled color filters.

Ambiguous colors seem to be behind the majority of these errors, but not all. When it comes to ambiguous colors, I know sometimes it’s preferable to split right at the color threshold (when aqua is slightly more green or slightly more blue), but I’d argue that’s not reasonable with so many thousands of items in the Sims 4. At this point, given the number of aqua and magenta items, I do think they need their own color filters.

There are a lot of issues with purples and pinks in the game, as purple appears to be defined as anything between violet and burgundy, except for a rose pink. Pink seems to be defined as everything from a pastel lavender, magenta, rose pink, light red, to a faded orange – which is half of the color wheel in pastels. I’m switching out purple for violet and defining pink as a cerise or rose.

Ambiguous colors definitions to refer to:

    1. Red-Orange (scarlet, vermillion, coral, salmon, peach).
      2. Orange-Yellow (gold, saffron, mango, amber).
      3. Yellow-Green (chartreuse, neon, olive).
      4. Green-Blue (cyan, turquoise, teal, aqua).
      5. Blue-Violet (indigo, periwinkle).
      6. Violet-Pink (magenta, fuchsia, lavender, orchid).
      7. Pink-Red (burgundy, wine, crimson, maroon)

Here's my ongoing chart with up to date errors:
