I need to edit this and say that the dog does have an obsession with swimming in the pool and I realized that, that particular puddle, could have been caused by him getting out of the pool. I'm not sure why that kind of puddle would set my sim off and honestly don't remember if there might have been others because both sims will zip around and clean up fast. Also have the robo vacuums going too. Regardless, the potty issues are still valid problems and it would be nice to have them resolved.
Nightgypsy any puddles anywhere do make Sims annoyed. They don't differentiate between doggy puddles and water puddles. The problem with them going on land which has no tiling/masonry is that the Sim still gets annoyed but can't immediately clean it because you can only clean land with some kind of flooring. So if there's puddles on grass for example, the Sim will be annoyed until it eventually vanishes automatically. The Sim even gets annoyed taking the dog out for a walk when they go potty. It always seems weird to me. Who takes their pooch walkies then gets irritated with them for doing exactly what they're supposed to do? Worse still, passing Sims will also complain about the puddle. It could definitely use some tuning. A doggy needs to go somewhere and they can't clean up after themselves.
As for the obsession with the pool I've tried a few things like making them a Couch Potato but some are just drawn to the pool. I sometimes end up fencing it off to keep the dogs out of it. I've got 1 Sim with 4 rescue dogs that won't stop swimming and leave water pools everywhere. That could also do with some tuning. 🐶

I will have to pay more attention with the puddles. They live in Sulani and it rains quite a bit so maybe it is more those puddles freaking my sim out and I was blaming the dog. I know for sure the puddles on the front porch are from the dog though. Outside of buying a weather changer or moving them I guess it will be what will be as I don't really want to do either of those things. These are my first sims in a long time that don't have a butler so the puddles are more noticeable. I hadn't thought about that. I still think the non-floored idea would be good to keep the pottying off of the porch even if nothing else.
Back to dogs going potty and considering the things you said about that, I think a small patch of dog grass needs to be added that can be put in the yard that attracts the dogs to it to potty. Maybe it could be enchanted by a spellcaster to autoclean. LOL I don't know but you're very right about walking the dogs and the sims get annoyed when the poor thing goes potty. It is just bananas. I would like these sims to have more than one pet but it is exasperating to deal with even one between walks, attention and cleanup. Pets are my huge joy in life and I would really like to see them be more of a joy in game.
I don't mind the dogs pool obsession because I think it cuts down on his exercise need. It doesn't take much of anything to make him happy. He's definitely easier to care for than dogs in other households.
Thanks for your input about everything. It really helps me to see different aspects :) Many of us simmers are heavy into pets so maybe the powers that be will listen and give the pack a re-tune or an upgrade. :)
