Bring Multi-functional Lots to the Sims 4

I would really love the ability to combine two lot types in the sims 4, such as a residential lot and a bar, or a home combined with a retail store.

This would make the gameplay much more interestind and realistic, allowing players to create more dynamic living spaces. For example, Sims could live above their business, runa bar while living on-site, or build multifunctional places.

It would also offer more freedom in building and storytelling, giniving players more creative possibilities.

This would be a great improvement to enrich the overall gameplay experience!

Thanks.

  • Yes, I really love if lots had the potential for at least up to 2 lot types. It could be as simple as just toggle a second lot type after the first is selected.

BUT I'd want required items removed (I really detest that we have to have TVs/mics/etc. on certain types of lots).

A seamless For Rent apartment + B&H store resident would be just so nice. Or a Commercial Lot (to spawn NPCs, and the type of Sims who would visit the lot) + Custom Venue (for roles types/schedules (non-getaway use) on a parallel use of the lot).

Hi! Thank you so much for your message, I really appreciate it 😊
I must admit I’m a little disappointed that my idea didn’t get more likes, as I put quite a bit of thought into it haha 😅. thanks again!

  • There is the Business and Hobbies EP that lets you have a home business. Unfortunately businesses and home businesses are not designed to be as flexible and versatile as they were in TS2 game. Sometimes it feels like they went out of their way to make things as unflexible as possible. If they allowed us to charge for drinks and coffees while tending the bar and coffee cart we could have a home bar, cafe, or even work at a location that doesn't typically have one like a library. We have three retail systems in game and all have limitations on what you can or cannot do with them. Wish they would combine them into one fully functional system similar to that in TS2.

  • Yes, but it’s not enough… I’d like us to be able to build at least two distinct types of lots. For example, if there’s a bar, it should be independent from our apartment/house, etc. There would be so many possibilities for combining them! We should be able to choose as an option whether we manage the second lot or leave it autonomous… for me, that would make the game more enjoyable and smoother, and also allow for amazing builds.

It frustrates me a bit to be limited, especially for residential rentals. Adding a second type of lot would bring extra value… the city would feel more populated, since currently the number of lots is very limited compared to The Sims 2, where you could choose where to build and the worlds were much larger.

Technically speaking they don't need to add more lots or types of lots, just enable activities to be carried out on the lots we do have. Like why not let us earn money from bartending or tending the coffee cart? Why not allow the NPC vendors for the many food stands spawn on any type of lot? Even on residential rentals, with all units occupied hardly any sim hangs out in the common areas so it makes no sense to add a bar room or a play room, or something the whole community could use like a pool.

  • Yes, I see what you mean, but adding another type of lot still brings in more Sims, and the place feels alive on its own without needing to travel there like with a typical community lot. The difference is that our Sims will actually live on the lot as well. What I’m looking for is being able to create something like a “small street corner” within the lot where we live.

You could try adding a small home business to your lot if all you want is for it to be more lively. Also, some lots have by design a lot more traffic near them from townies. You also need to keep in mind that average number of sims on a lot is about 25, so even it if it's multifunctional, there won't be that many sims there either way.

Business and Hobbies EP kind of did this, but also I think a lot of people like the get to work style shops and dine out restaurants, for example, or the existing library or gym lot types, and want to combine these kinds of lots with other types. I mean why not have a library with a restaurant, for example? Now we have self build apartments and can divide up lots in to distinct spaces it does seem more possible to do this.
