Expansion pack idea: Health & Disease

Background: When playing, I noticed that the deaths a Sim can die from are either old age, or unnatural deaths. This feels very unrealistic because most people won't drown or die from a fire but from injuries and diseases. Also, "old age" is so incredibly broad - no one dies from old age but actually from different diseases that are simply more common on old age, such as alzheimers, heart failure, cancer, etc.

I would give anything for an expansion pack where the health of a Sim matters. Sims can get diseases, anything from a flu to a chronic condition. They can get treatment, and for some diseases, Sims can die, especially if left untreated. Lifestyles should interact with a Sim's health: A sim that eats badly and never exercises should be more prone to develop metabolic or heart diseases than a sim that is active, spends a lot of time outside, and eats well. Until now, all Sims have the same lifespan and well-being whether we take wonderful care of them or whether we lock them up and only feed them once every two days to not let them starve. A health expansion pack would make our decisions for them much more meaningful.

Dying from old age should not happen out of nowhere after a certain time lived but should be due to certain diseases that are more common the elder, just like in real life. Give them heart problems, metabolic issues, cancer. Give them dementia. Make the experience of elder Sims more realistic and unique, instead of just making them grey-haired versions of their younger selves.

Introduce hospital stays, retirement homes. Maybe even make some conditions genetic - until now, the only heritable thing are the looks of Sims. There is so much more potential of the genes.

And please introduce reproductive care!! Give female Sims a reproductive cycle with varying fertility. Maybe even let their health influence their fertility. There is so much unused potential even though having children is such a central part to the game.

Another idea would be to introduce or expand on mental health as well.

I would like to hear what other ideas you guys have! And if someone knows how to directly reach out to EA and suggest this idea, please let me know! I am very passionate about this.

  • I would disagree while I do like realistic gameplay this is just too realistic for myself I play the Sims to escape the real world I took care of my grandma to the best of my abilities until her dying day and when she died there was trauma I didn't know I had I'm glad Sims die cartoonist then being sick and heart problems.

  • Maybe I'm not right in the head, but I would LOVE this pack.  It wouldn't even have to involve RL human illnesses--it could involve absurd fictional illnesses like the ones in GTW.  A Sims game wouldn't be a Sims game without pitch-black humor.

  • i like the idea of it but i do think it should be optional for those who doesn't like these types of deaths

but awhile back i did mentioned about elder sims having dementia, maybe it can have a latter stage after elder called like "senior" or something it gets lesser trait slots over time

my grandpa wasn't himself the last 4 years before he died, a year before he died he was diagnosed with dementia
my grandma wasn't herself because of the cancer my grandpa had to take care of her

before the life and death pack came out, the elder sims looked like it died of a heart disease even when they were sleeping, i'm so glad they added the death type the elder sim dies in their sleep

but maybe they do can add heart problems even for younger stages since some younger people also have heart diseases (back in october 2023 a little before halloween i lost someone important to me because of heart problems)

maybe we can have the option so your sim dies of lung problems, my roommate's mom died of lung problems and at the start of this year i lost somebody because of a double pneumonia (this person wasn't doing so good for the last 3 years, she was mentally good, she asked us how we were doing but physically her conditions went backwards over the years)

if elders nowadays do die and your ideas get added, they should atleast dies the way they did in The Sims 2 that doesn't looks like it had a heart disease

i think the solution for both parties should be so that we can toggle some death types on/off so it can be a win-win for us both, maybe for other packs and even the basegame update we can toggle certain death types off, i heard we can disable emotional death types so why not for other types in both basegame AND in packs? i think it should be possible

it should definitely be a thing your sim won't feel well if they won't do active stuff for awhile just like in real life, it's only realistic, people in real life won't feel too well if they spend all the time inside whenever watching tv, sitting on a table or computer or even spend their time in bed, your sim needs to gain weight if they spend all the times inside and lost weight if they do some kind of sport or doing active things outdoors, it's only realistic

we do have hospitals in "Get To Work" but it's only there if you work there or if your sim is in labor, it should be visible, it should be similair with "cats and dogs" you can visit them all the times even outside your work and when in labor

maybe we can have a doctor career with your pack ideas so it can give your sim medicines or other stuff with its treatments, it can have a active career but maybe like also work at home so you can give people advices on the chat or on the phone or something how to deal with their health and stuff

and like Jooleeyuh have mentioned, it can also have unrealistic health problems but i can't think of any

with this idea it can have a "worrisome" "helpfull" and "protective" traits and as for the aspiration "help people in need" or something

Not everyone will enjoy/want the same packs. I guess the creators will have to work out if more people are likely to buy the pack than not. I personally would vote for this. In fact I just made my own post. I used to play a game called theme hospital and would love something similar incorporated.

  • love this idea. some parts more than others. I just created my own post regarding a hospital, I used to love playing a game called theme hospital. I think a pack called healthcare or something similar would be able to incorporate both yours and my ideas,
