Expansion Pack Idea: Suburban Living & Community
Hi everyone! I wanted to share an expansion pack idea and see what others think.
I know there’s been a lot of talk lately, but we also never had any official announcement from EA or The Sims/Maxis that they’re no longer doing expansion packs - so I wanted to share this idea.
I’d love a pack focused on suburban living and real community life: Cul-de-sacs, neighbors who actually interact, HOA meetings, and Sims looking out for each other (or getting a little nosey!🤭)
It could come with community-focused jobs like:
- Firefighter
- Real Estate Agent (perfect for selling, buying, or renting homes in the neighborhood.)
- HOA Member/President
- Community Service (Could be its own system; doing neighborhood cleaning or ordered to do community service as a punishment)
- Dentist
- Clinics (Regular doctor check-ups for babies-elder sims)
- Trash Pickup Job (Can also bring Recycle bins that are functional for recycling)
- Banking (Bank Teller, Loan Officer (applying for a mortgage or just a regular loan), and Finance Manager)
Dentist, Doctor Check-Ups & Insurance (Babies to Elders)
I’d love real healthcare for every life stage. Babies and toddlers could go for regular check-ups and shots (as a rabbithole with a parent), kids and teens could get yearly physicals and dentist cleanings - plus braces, cavities, and wisdom teeth for teens! Adults could get routine physicals, eye/dental check-ups, and Elders could need more frequent visits, prescriptions, and mobility check-ups. Sims could get a sore tooth or need a root canal if they skip the dentist too long, with moodlets to match.
And to pay for it all, households would have to get health/dental insurance! You could pick a plan - cheap with high bills at the visit, or pricier monthly with most things covered. No insurance? You pay full price or get a scary bill in the mail). Jobs could offer better insurance as a perk, which would make career choice matter even more for families.
Private School & Boarding School (can be a rabbithole!)
This could add so much to suburban/family gameplay. Some sims could apply or be invited to a private school (especially if they a part of a dynasty in the Royal and Legacy Pack), and the teens could even leave for boarding school as a rabbithole - they disappear during school hours (or for a boarding term) and come back with new skills, manners, friendships, or even a rebellious streak. It could affect grades, traits, and future careers, and give parents something to work/save towards with tuition. Imagine snooty private schools vs. strict boarding schools - with uniforms, headmasters, and scholarships for high grades! It would be cool.
And of course, adult parents could even brag to other Sims about their child being in private or boarding school - a fun social that could make other parents impressed, jealous, or competitive!
Small detail I’d love: water foundations for schools and around the neighborhood/parks that Sims can drink from and a lower dog-height version so dogs can drink too on walks! Such a simple suburban touch. We should also include skate boards and rolling blades as another way to get fit as well.
I would also like to see Lemonade Stands (Fun Kid/Neighborhood Details!)
Kids could set up a lemonade stand in the front yard or at the park and sell lemonade for a few Simoleons - neighbors and passerby actually stop to buy! Kids and Scouts-style groups could sell cookies to raise money, build Charisma/Mischief (hello, upselling! 🤭), and earn badges.
Another cool feature to bring are ice cream trucks. It could drive through the neighborhood playing its music - kids (and adults) would run out to buy ice cream, popsicles, and other frozen treats. It could show up more in summer, stop at parks, and become a fun little neighborhood event everyone looks forward to. Just a small touch to make the suburbs feel alive!
Cars, Tickets & Learning to Drive
With that being said, could we finally get cars? I know The Sims 4 is a closed world, but so was The Sims 2 and they made cars work. If we have cars, we could have garages, driveways, and carpools.
Sports cars, family cars, pickup trucks, and even mopeds and motorcycles.
Even in a closed world, Sims could get speeding tickets - it could pop up as a choice card/action on the screen (or a moodlet) where you pick how to handle it, and live with the outcome! Parents could teach their teens how to drive, building a driving skill. Teens could buy a DMV book to study, then go take their driving permit test as a rabbithole - pass or fail depending on how high their driving level is from practicing with their parents. It would make getting that first car feel earned and can be a milestone as well.
Sims should also be able to wash their cars in the driveway - this could be a new chore for kids/teens where they can get an allowance or as a punishment lol.
Since there will be garages, another cool feature that can tie into this pack, BANDS!
Like how real bands often start out practicing in a garage. It would be so fun to form a band, practice at home, and work your way up to gigs. This can even bring a new career like the Singer career.
This can also bring in a new instrument like the drums.
To wrap things up, the last feature I would like to see is More Trouble when Curfews are Broken (Teens).
Since we already have curfews for teens, what if getting caught out past curfew meant more than just trouble with parents and being grounded - the cops could get involved too! And if teens throw a party with no supervision after hours, neighbors could call the cops, a ticket/file a complaint would be created and parents would be issued/notified. Parents would have to pay the bill, or they could choose for their teen to do community service instead - and still ground them on top of it!
Court Dates & Suing Other Sims
Tickets could actually lead somewhere - Sims could get a court date (as a rabbithole) where they can pay the fine, fight it, or be assigned community service depending on the outcome! Sims could also sue other Sims - over HOA disputes, property damage (knocking over the trash cans or going through mail), a bad car accident, or neighbor drama like releasing their secret to the public with the Royal and Legacy Pack - with a chance to win (or lose and pay even more). It would tie the tickets, HOA, and community service systems all together and make consequences feel real.
Let me know your thoughts and ideas that you have! 😁
