Faith and family expansion pack idea

Hello Sims Team!

I have been a longtime Sims player and wanted to share an idea that I believe could add meaningful depth, storytelling, and inclusivity to The Sims 4.

I would love to see a religion and spirituality-focused expansion or gameplay system added to the game. One of the things I appreciate most about The Sims is the freedom players have to create stories and represent many different kinds of people and lifestyles. I would love to see that same level of representation extended to players who value faith, spirituality, or religious community in their real lives.

My hope would not be for one religion to be promoted over another, but instead for players to have customizable and optional ways to represent different beliefs, traditions, or no religious belief at all.

Some ideas could include:

  • A “Spiritual” or “Religious” trait
  • Customizable belief systems or faith preferences
  • Optional places of worship and community gatherings
  • Prayer, meditation, worship music, or reflective interactions
  • Religious leader careers and related university courses
  • Faith-based or non-faith-based holidays and traditions
  • Interactable religious texts or symbolic items from multiple religions
  • Community volunteering, ceremonies, and family traditions

I think this could be handled respectfully and inclusively while giving players even more storytelling freedom. Many players already create faith-based stories in creative ways, and it would be wonderful to have gameplay systems that support that style of play officially.

As a Christian player, I would personally love to see my own values and traditions represented in the game world, while also seeing respectful representation for players from many other backgrounds and beliefs.

Thank you for continuing to support such a creative and diverse community, and thank you for taking the time to read my suggestion.

Sincerely,

Kelly

  • I am glad they don't put real world religions in-game officially. There are so many different denominations of Christianity that they couldn't mimic all properly. I just assume other faiths would also be hard to mimic in the game without offending a few players. What they could do is put in the religions from Sims Medieval which somewhat mimics many real world religions.

  • Every once in a while someone does ask for religion for Sims 4 (example Religious Inclusivity in Ts4 | EA Forums - 13013726), but responses are a little split.

I personally do not want RL religion in my game. But if there is CAS/BB items available—I think that is fine (I think we already have a menorah for example). People can roleplay from there and it is up to them. I mean I made a Gothic Medieval Church in Sims 3 with existing assets for a graveyard lot (or vampire hangout LOL).

I'd be fine with gameplay if it is generalized "Spiritual" and "Superstitious". As in a way shire respect (Spiritual) and voodoo (Superstitious) does already exist in game. Expanding as long as as it is generalized and Simified, I think could work.

  • There's already quite a lot of religion related elements in the game, like the Christmas tree, the kwanza kinara and the menorah candles, the Diwali candles, the life and death candles, you can sing carols, there's an attend spiritual service, hold fast and cold plunge holiday traditions, you can make offerings at the altar in For Rent, and visit temples and church, can make challah bread, etc. I don't want religion as a system in game, I am already fed up with all sims having to celebrate all events in the calendar. I don't mind and actually welcome objects that can help the players incorporate religious elements in their game if they wish to and when they wish to.
