Also responding to that first point: you can have up to 5 variations per outfit category which to me, feels like plenty. Having to purchase additional clothing would be more time consuming than that initial setup, especially with how long actions in game take.
If you're not a console player, there are mods to accomplish some of these things, and there's nothing stopping you from doing your reality show idea as essentially roleplay. I don't see it being integrated into the game officially but who knows.
