Please Make Mystical and Macabre Compatible

Ever since I heard about the new Mystical Trait, I was so excited to use with my favourite trait Macabre. I just think for a dark fairy or dark spellcaster it be an great complimentary combo. But you "conflicting traits" blocked them... To me the affinity of and to the occults and the affinity of death is ideal for the darker occults and sims.

How is this not macabre compatible?

  • Completely agree. If a trait doesn't have a clear opposite, let it be flexible. The opposite of Macabre is not Mystical, they are more related than opposing. Opposites are things like, "sunny disposition", "fear of death", even cheerful or optimistic. But Mystical? Being drawn to death and the macabre to a degree of morbid fascination is absolutely mystical.

Also, traits should always be considered for cross-pack play. Giving them random opposites that are only chosen to fit their parent EP is limiting and disappointing.

I dislike that as well; it's needlessly over-the-top and unhelpful. Macabre gets treated like Gloomy 2.0 in a lot of ways, with a smattering of High Maintenance, and as much as I like the trait, I think this is detrimental to it.

My Macabre Sim is a collector, gemologist, alchemist/herbalist and soon to be apothecary skilled, so almost always outside (usually has the outdoorsy lifestyle) and in hot weather, I sort of dress her like Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice with a large black sun hat (plus green tinted sunglasses) XD

  • Related: I don't care for the "ew, the sun" moodlet that comes with the Macabre trait, as if spooky types can't love the outdoors and nature or appreciate what is naturally, genuinely bright and colorful...

I think they are trying to use Mystical is "life focused" cause it is "nature" argument, but nature is destructive, dies and it's decay brings forth more life (which is more accurate). Making references to the cycle of "life" comes back to "death", which is how Macabre seems to be referenced in the game during Life & Death. And that is why I think Macabre works perfect with Mystical. In nature death brings life; life brings death—that is nature.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see why they would conflict in the first place.

I know I relate to this combo very much, in Sims 3 Brooding was the closest trait to describe me and in Sims 4 Mystical/Macabre combo does best.

  • I could describe myself as a "Macabre Mystic" in real life.  Come on, EA: "gothic occultists" are so widely known to exist, we're a cliche!  I'd say most if not all religions--mainstream and esoteric--harmonize mysticism and death, so why this mass erasure?  I thought EA stood for representation?
