Lately, it's been increasingly frustrating to play this game. And this new update just solidified my anger.
As a consistent player of many years, it is infuriating that with any new update, mods + CC continuously break. This is just the worst of it. Even after I went through the usual process of manually moving my mods folder, re-updating game settings, deleting cache, and adding the folder back in, my game broke!! Even after I removed the mods folder (again) to troubleshoot the base game itself, my game was simply not functioning properly. I couldn't interact with my sims (they wouldn't walk to the next room....) or really do anything that SHOULD function for the base game.
Moreover, as players, we SHOULD NOT have to manually reboot our mods + CC with each update. These are integral parts of enjoying the game, and as game developers, EA should have already addressed this issue (it is REOCCURRING). Think of other games you can download mods for. Such as Minecraft, where most mods don't break the game (there are exceptions because some mods DO change the actual game code, like some Sims 4 script mods—but small mods of the level of CC don't). It's not a perfect science, there will always be hiccups when you are modifying game code beyond what has been constructed, but this is genuinely outrageous. This is a fundamental issue that EA is purposely not addressing. For many players, mods + CC ARE the game.
This is especially humiliating here because this update launching the "Marketplace" puts CC behind a paywall within the game.... How are you going to "move away" from paid packs just to launch another paywall project? And looking at the prices for "Moola".... what is the point if at the end of the day, to get up to the same level of added content from an expansion pack, you will end up paying up to the same amount either way?? This is just a cash-grab and a reframing of the packs in a "prettier" wrapping which is insulting.
At this point, I'm going to demand a refund for the packs and kits I have paid for because how is an update going to break fundamental aspects of your game's function? This is an absolute garbage move of EA.
