I see what you mean. I also feel like this event has SO much cool potential but it has just been left to die. I recently tried to sell stuff at the flea market for the first time and had not one visitor/buyer even though I followed all of the steps for the sale. Having it fully fleshed out would lead to some great gameplay and community building - not to mention great for saving the Sims "planet"!
