Why have you ruined the shops in get to work ?

That is annoying if that is what is happening. Do you have any mods? From my experience you don't really need an employee, because stuff is displayed and customers just buy stuff, you don't need to actually attend the cashier, so your sim is free to restock and clean if they make any mess
