Anyone else having these gameplay issues?

So I literally deleted all of my other games because I wanted to play the sims again. There's plenty space on my laptop (one made for gaming) and the game used to run smoothly. It hasn't been more than 5 months probably since I last played. 

To the point, I can play in CAS just fine, no delays, no glitching, nothing. It's pretty smooth. But when I get to the actual game, it delays when I try to click on things and my sim takes FOREVER to do an action when I get to finally choose it. My assumption is that maybe I have too many packs n such but I only bought two things; eco lifestyle and the artist studio kit. I do have a lot of other packs downloaded but again, it's never been THIS bad before. I can handle lag but this made me want to rip my hair out lol

Any ideas as to fix this? Note: Im even playing on the lowest graphics.

    First off, are you playing on a PC?  Do you have any Mods? We've had patches over the last few months, and mods that once were fine, may need to be updated. So, if you have mods, I recommend you pull your Mods folder. Also be certain to delete the localthumbcache.package. This little devil can hold bits of mods that have been removed. Play your game. If this doesn't correct things, I recommend you do a game repair. If you're still having problems, contact AHQ. Best of luck, I hope you get your problem resolved quickly.

    I am having lag like never before, too, particularly when I first enter a lot in live mode.  My Sim will be unresponsive, and the game clock will freeze and skip around.  I have a hunch this is somehow related to the Cozy Holiday event (or whatever it's called), because the problems started for me around the time the event dropped.
