aspirations, grades and character values aren't changing

I installed the Realm of Magic game pack on my PC yesterday and since then none of my Sims are completing aspirations, their grades and work performance aren't increasing despite doing homework and exams, and character values aren't changing for my teen no matter how many dishes she washes or how many times she does homework :(

I've tried all the basic steps like realoding the game, loading another family, uninstalling my game entirely and re-installing it, and also tried the "repair game" option but it hasn't worked.

I don't have any mods just expansions etc.
