Splitting up a household w/o moving to yet another household

Looking for something more current than 5-10 years ago, LOL.

I am playing in San Myshuno and wanted 2 Sims in the same building to swap apartments. I could find no way to do it so I ended up moving one in with the other. Then I tried to move the other to the empty apartment. Seems like the Split only has options to move to another household, which has to be about one of the most absurd things I've ever run into with TS4.

I've tried Manage Households, where I run into the above. I'm trying to find something in their personal menu, on the phone, anything... I'm hopeful that after 10 years of people complaining about this function, or lack thereof, someone will have information on how this can be done, most preferably one that doesn't mean I have to move some people into the apt I want my Sim to have, move him to that household, then what... delete them in CAS?

We were able to move individual Sims out in TS3, and I'm pretty TS2 as well. Can't remember back to when I played TS1, except for the incredibly cool Magic pack, hahaha.

  • I do this to move children around to households I play most often so I can level up their skills lol

Invite Person A to the current lot and ask them to join household. When prompted to select which members to split, swap Person A and their current housemate to the household u want them in and move the other household to Person A's current residence. If that doesn't work, u can do it a single person at a time using the same steps, but split alternating sims. I hope I explained that in a way that makes sense

  • If I understand you correctly: You have two Sims - SimA and SimB. SimA lives in Apt 1 and SimB lives in Apt 2. You want them to swap Apartments (Apartments = Lots). You want SimA to move to Apt 2 and SimB to move to Apt 1. These are the only Sims in each household.

This is doable from Household management.

    Move SimB into SimA's Household.

Since they're the only Sim in that Household their funds will go with them.

Now, move SimA over to the empty Household formerly occupied by SimB.

SimA will now be in SimB's Household and will "Inherit" SimB's funds.

You can adjust the funds to your liking.

SimA and SimB have now swapped Apartments (Lots).

You can adjust Household names in Household management.

Be aware that this may affect collections. Collections are tied to Households.

  • You can split Households without having to move them in with another Household.

You can use their phone. Under Travel - on your Sim's phone - select the "Split from Household and Move" option.

This will open the Household Management dialogue and you can proceed from there.

You can also split Households directly in Household Management.

    Select "Create a New Household"

This will create a new household, but they will not be in any world.

Now, you can move them wherever you want.

I had none of these options, as I said. Nothing came up on the phone, clicking on the Sim, or using the Manage Households in "world".

(My tag may say New Ace but I've literally been playing since TS1!)

Like I said, I'd moved the one Sim into the apt I wanted her in, so both Sims were there. I tried to get the other but no options. I ended up saving the "family" to my library, plopping it down in the other apt, then deleting the Sim I wanted gone. Luckily they aren't Sims I really play - just setting up the NH so I can "fix" game sims for better interactions with played sims - so I don't care so much about relationships, collections, etc.

Appreciate the feedback but I'd literally tried everything and just didn't have the options. IDKW

Wow! I really appreciate how much you put into this. Truth to tell, like I said, I literally tried everything from Managing Households, to the Phone (Home and Travel, because I figured both had a chance of being a feasible option), to clicking on the Sim. I didn't have that option for anything. I'm sure I've split households in all the years I've been playing TS4, although I don't do it often, and thought maybe the problem was because it was an apartment - I don't have "For Rent", though.

I ended up saving the "family" to the library, then plopped them into the other apt, then deleted the Sim I wanted gone. Because they're just mostly unplayed Sims that I wanted to "fix" for interactions with my played Sims, I wasn't too concerned with whether or not I maintained relationships, funds, collections, etc.

Hope that if I have to do this ever again, I am more successful, LOL.

columbia93   I'm glad you found a solution that worked for you. Not sure why none of the others were available. Could have to do with the Sims themselves. Or... 🤷‍♀️

I love City Living because of the Apartments and a bit of the living in the City feel. But! It can be glitchy. Hope it behaves for you going forward.
