What do you expect to see? I would like the automatic light system to have an option only for sim. So if my dog or cat enters a room where a sim sleeps the light doesn't turn on.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.

if my dog or cat enters a room the light stays off, but if a sim would enter the room the light would turn on.
