[B&H] Paying Household Members as Employees?

Hi, I just got the Businesses & Hobbies expansion for Christmas and I have a question more out of curiosity than anything else.

I noticed my Sim can hire her husband, whom she obviously lives with, as an employee at her small business. She has to pay him a salary but since they live together and share household funds, does that mean the money doesn't actually go anywhere? Did my Sim find a free labour loophole or does the game actually deduct the money from the household funds anyway and just make it go poof instead of going to her husband?
