My sims disappeared?

I took like 2 whole months to make these 2 characters from a show I love, tried my best to make them look and behave canonically and when I tried to house them weeks later, they were gone. When making them, I saved each step I took because this wasn't the first time this had happened. Therefore, that can't be the problem. I'm also 100% sure they were saved because they appear on the “cover” of my game and have the same last name as the family I previously placed them in to make sure they were safe from being discarded. So, how do I find them? I've looked in every world I own, every household, I cannot find them. Are they truly gone?

If it helps: I play on an HP all-in-one PC, I got it brand new about 3y ago, and I also have some mods installed but my Sims 4 is completely up-to-date and running well if you ignore this issue that I've had for months.

(I apologize if this doesn't make sense or adhere to a required format; I have never written one of these before.)

    there's a few options what could have happened.

    • Are they the only Sims you're missing from that save ? 
    • Is the other save game you have ok ?
    • Are you using oneDrive ?
    • Do you still have them in your library ?

    Hi crinrict​ 

    They are the only Sims missing from that save, both games lost the two Sims, yes I am using one drive, and they are not in my library, unfortunately.

    Could you check which folder your game uses (oneDrive or local) and then check if maybe the other drive has other versions where they are still there : https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/

    Did you ever save them to your library and keep (the game usually automatically saves them)

    There are mods that delete Sims if outdated but that's usually not just one Household, same with other causes. Do you maybe have any backups ?
